Following a comprehensive review of elite player development in the United States and around the world, U.S. Soccer created the Development Academy in 2007 to improve the everyday environment for the elite youth player. • Partnership between U.S. Soccer and top youth clubs • Provide the best youth players with an every day environment

designed to produce the next generation of NT players • Connects National Team coaches directly with the Academy clubs

to develop and identify players and coaches for future YNT • Each Academy team is evaluated at least 10 times each year • Each Academy club receives 2 formal evaluations • Identify and develop the next generation of elite referees

DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY CLUBS

AGE GROUP ELIGIBILITY

• U-13/14 - players born after January 1, 2000 • Full-time players

• not eligible for any outside competition • may not play or practice with middle school or high school • required to start in at least 25% of their team’s Academy games • added players must start at least 25% of the remaining Academy

games • Dual age group

• Emphasize long-term player development • “Play-up” opportunities • Focus on potential vs. physical maturity

ACADEMY DEVELOPMENT PLAYERS

• Must be a currently registered player on an Academy Club’s non-Academy Team

• Must have been registered with that Academy Club between August 1 and January 31 of current Academy Seasonal year

• May not be registered with any two different clubs at the same time during the Academy Seasonal year

• Not subject to the Minimum Start Requirement • May appear in a maximum of six (6) Academy games per season. • Can only change their status to full-time once during the Academy

season, and they cannot return to developmental player status.

• The National Premier League is an important component of US Club Soccer’s 10-year vision to refine the landscape for competitive youth soccer

• The latest of these programs are the National Premier Leagues (NPL), which are being created throughout the country • to provide high level competition in given geographic areas • to elevate and change the competitive youth landscape based

upon US Club Soccer’s fundamental principles • extend developmental principals espoused by the USSDA

• into younger age groups • additional clubs • providing a platform for long-term player development.

US CLUB SOCCER 10-YEAR VISION

This vision recognizes that: • Properly-structured youth soccer clubs are the vehicle through

which player development does and must occur in the U.S. • Clubs and their leadership should be the primary decision-makers

in the structure and organization of soccer • USCS should provide leadership and a vehicle for clubs to work

together to elevate the game & player development environment • National Premier Leagues, as well as the best clubs, should be

integrated in US Club Soccer’s id2 National Identification and Development Program, include Player Development Programs (PDPs) in select local markets, and work closely with U.S. Soccer staff regarding player identification, and player/coach development

The US Club Soccer National Premier Leagues are created to provide national competition developmental platforms: • focused on long-term player development • for the country’s top soccer CLUBS, allowing meaningful games

appropriately scheduled with higher training-to-game ratios • that allows players to be scouted and evaluated by U.S. Soccer

National Staff and Technical Advisors • designed and structured by the clubs, based on their needs • using international rules of competition • that provide an avenue for qualification for the National Premier

NPL PURPOSE & GOALS

The id2 Program is an Olympic Development Program as approved by the USOC and U.S. Soccer Federation.
