Abundant Grace Lutheran ChurchGreenwood, Indiana

This church was constructed with future expansion of the congregation in mind. The East facade was designed for easy removal to allow for any addition/renovation work that may transpire in future years. The project included new pastoral offices, classrooms, a kitchen, quiet room, narthex, restrooms and administrative offices. The sanctuary was designed to seat 250 people and 84 parking spaces were added, along with three ADA spaces. The 8,100 ft2 church cost $980,000 and was opened in 2000.

The building entrances face north and south toward small parking areas. The large parking area at the rear of the building can hold 1,200 cars, but the door that faces it was a small single door and the janitors service entrance . With the addition of a Teen Community Center and interior remodeling of the nursery areas, we proposed that the church turn the main entrance of the building toward the largest parking area, anticipating construction of a bus storage facility and future gymnasium as well as other possible developments on site. Our design created a new "Main Street" through the building for easier access to all parts of the building. This did not involve a great deal of additional cost, but took advantage of the proposed construction projects to completely refocus the church inside and out. The timeline for this project was 19 months at a cost of $2.2 million.

As Calvary Temple grows, the need for additional event spaces for both adults and teens increases. With a congregation of over 3500, the church has become more than just a church, but a community ‘fixture’ of sorts. Drawing on the focus of positive energy in the community, the growth of the church and its facilities are paramount.

Construction was completed in 2006 for this historic church renovation and classroom addition which included demolition of the existing parsonage structure. The renovations of the 2800 ft2 existing sanctuary building consisted of complete roof replacement with stone-coated steel shingles; reconstruction of the sacristy area to enlarge the choir and baptistery areas, as well as upgrading electrical and alarm systems and HVAC systems. The 6,400 ft2 new classroom building includes a full kitchen, public restrooms and church offices. Construction was completed in 10 months for a cost of $868,000.

The idea that Grace United Methodist Church would continually grow was taken into consideration when Prince Alexander designed the classroom addition. The bottom level of this addition was for classroom use, whereas the 2nd Floor was to eventually be used for a ‘Teen Center’. In 2008, the Teen Center became a reality for the church, and has drawn enormous support from the church’s congregation and teens. The new center includes: offices, classrooms, computer areas, café’ setting, gaming area, prayer nave and an assembly area with a stage.

Peru First Christian Church Activity Center Peru, Indiana

In September of 2006 we completed the 10,570 sf2 Activity Center for the church located in an historic firehouse across from the church. The purpose was to make an activity center and gathering place for the people of Peru. In keeping with the historical look of the firehouse, light fixtures and some of the existing elements (like the arched doorway) were kept in the design. The arched doorway was actually uncovered during the renovation process, and was too significant to cover back up. Kids have an arcade room with pool tables, classrooms, and stage for entertainment; as well as a full-size commercial kitchen.

The 10,000 ft2 facility was built in 2002 near Bargersville, Indiana. The facility currently sits on 10 acres and accommodates an approximate 300 person congregation. Since the site was relatively a flat cornfield, the master plan was an important step in order to be sure that the new church would make a good presentation to the public and communicate "openness" to the community. They are a fairlyyoung congregation, and due to this, their youth ministries and young family ministries the master plan considers outdoor activities and a family life center as the next steps to take. The final building design has a contemporary county church feel to it. The Narthex is designed as a cafe/lounge, to encourage fellowship. This building took 8 months to construct at a cost of $1.1 million.

The congregation's building committee had worked for three years with other architects and could not achieve a consensus on a design that would resolve the church's needs for additional education, fellowship areas and at the same time be non-conflicting with the aesthetic of the 1954 traditional Gothic Style parish hall along with the 1967 modern style sanctuary. The resulting design bridged these styles and also solved a variety of code and ADA compliance problems. This project consisted of a 7,000 ft2 addition, along with 2,000 ft2 of the existing church which was renovated. This project cost $820,000.
