Digiteen Project 12-1 Press Release

The organizers of the Flat Classroom are excited to announce the selection of the 11 participatingclassrooms for the 2012-1 project. These schools represent more than 350 students, from 5 countries, andruns January through May 2012. The project managers for this project are Theresa Allen, Project Manager,Rebekah Madrid, Collaborative Coach, and Melanie Kells, Community Builder.

"Digital Citizenship is understanding effective, safe behaviors online that consider long term consequencesand give students a method for understanding how to make decisions as new technologies and trendsemerge at lightning speed," saysVicki Davis, classroom teacher and co founder of the Digiteen Project, a

global collaborative project that has now harnessed the power of over 1,000 students from many countries."Few things are more important than teaching students about effective behaviors online for the protection ofthem now and in the future."

Lindsay and Davis also co-plan and manage the A Week in the Life... Elementary Flat Classroom Projectfor upper elementary students, the Digiteen Project (digital citizenship for middle and high school stu-dents), the NetGen Ed Project, and the Eracism Project that involves middle school students in a globaldebating event with finals being held in a virtual world and the face-to-face Flat Classroom Conferenceheld regularly in various places around the world.

Flat Classroom has been:included in Thomas Friedman's 3rd edition of The World is Flat, 2007included in Don Tapscott's book Grown Up Digital, November 2008
