Digiteen and Digital Citizenship
What is Digiteen?
Digiteen is a project in which students collaborate with each other from different places by sharing resources. It is basically a project that helps students discover the growing digital community; they help raise awareness to what is going on around them.
Digital Citizenship is the knowledge of how to use technology and how to behave around it. Also it is the knowledge that you have to be responsible while using technology.
To help explain Digital Citizenship a bit more there are nine Digital Elements.
What is Digital Citizenship?
Digital Access Digital CommerceDigital Communication Digital LiteracyDigital Health and WellnessDigital Rights and Responsibilities Digital SecurityDigital EtiquetteDigital Law
What are the elements of Digital Citizenship?
Digital Access is basically the fact that we are all equals and we should all get equal access to technology. The reason for this is so that people can enhance their growth of knowledge toward electronic societies and technologies. Also so that people can become protective citizens.
No. 1: Digital Access
The people who use technology need to acknowledge that a big share of the economy is done electronically. Also they should know that a vast majority of people shop online and it is legal.
There are also a large number of illegal purchases happening electronically. People as users should be aware of them and should learn how to consume.
No. 2: Digital Commerce
Communication that was in the 19th and 20th centuries was very limited. But in the 21st century a lot of different ways of communication were discovered. For example (mobile phones, e-mail, social networks, text messaging and so, on).
Now communication has changed completely and people can communicate with each other all the time at anytime . (Even when they’re half around the world at 12:oo midnight).
Some people miss use this because they haven’t been taught how to use it properly.
No. 3: Digital Communication
Ways to use technologies are being taught in schools, but it is still not enough. People need to over think what they’re supposed to teach and how they’re going to do it.
New technologies have been entering work places and these technologies aren’t being taught in schools.
Students must be taught how to learn in digital societies; for example students must learn things at anytime and anywhere. So when new technologies appear they can learn how to use them appropriately and efficiently.
Digital Citizenship requires new ways of teaching students what they need to learn.
Business, military, and medicine are ways that technology is used differently (in a new way).
No. 4: Digital Literacy
A lot of physical problems occur when people interact with technology for too long. For example people could get eye problems, hearing problems from technology. Also people could get psychological problems as well, such as internet addiction and so, on.
So, Digital Citizenship includes teaching how people can protect themselves from physical or psychological harm.
No. 5: Digital Health and Wellness
In the digital world every digital citizen has rights. For example every digital citizen has the rights for privacy and so, on (just like every government give rights to its citizens).
These rights must be known and discussed in the digital world. Also with the rights come responsibilities that must be meet. Theses two things must be meet so that people can be protective.
Users must know how to use the technologies in appropriate ways.
No. 6: Digital Rights and Responsibilities
People must protect themselves from some individuals in the digital society, because just like in any other society there are people who vandalise other peoples property.
People must protect themselves by taking precautions; for example having virus protectors and data back ups on their computers.
Also it is a digital citizen’s responsibility to try and keep outside forces that will cause damage away as much as possible.
No. 7: Digital Security
Digital Etiquette is one of the areas with the most problems in Digital Citizenship. Technology users don’t usually get digital etiquette taught to them before using technology.
Some people have difficulty telling other people about their digital etiquette. Rules are created and sometime technologies are even band to prevent inappropriateness.
People as users must be taught to use technology appropriately and to become responsible digital citizens in the digital society.
No. 8: Digital Etiquette
There is a digital law that people should be aware of and they should follow it.
Miss using technology is a crime and using it appropriately is following the digital law.
People as users should know that destroying or damaging other peoples things online is against the digital law. Also hacking, downloading illegal things, creating viruses, sending spam and plagiarizing are also against the digital law.
No. 9: Digital Law
Freedom
Innovation Customization
Scrutiny Integrity Collaboration
Entertainment Speed
