Misericordiae Vultus-Bull of Indiction of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy (Feast of the Immaculate Conception, December 8, 2015 – Feast of Christ the King, November 20, 2016.) There is a mouthful! Basically, Pope Francis has declared a year of meditation on what “justice and mercy” means. A Bull, of course, is just an extended announcement and this one emphasizes forgiveness, welcome, understanding and a revitalizing of the messages of Vatican II. We will look for a pamphlet presentation of the Bull as well as the Encyclical on the Environ- ment. I suggest you go online to www.iubilaeummisericordiae.va and read the whole document. Pope Francis’ Official Prayer of the Year of Mercy Lord Jesus Christ, you have taught us to be merciful like the heavenly Father, and have told us that whoever sees you sees Him. Show us your face and we will be saved. Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and Matthew from being enslaved by money; the adulteress and Magdalene from seeking happiness only in created things; made Peter weep after his betrayal, and assured Paradise to the repentant thief. Let us hear, as if addressed to each one of us, the words that you spoke to the Samaritan woman: “If you knew the gift of God!” You are the visible face of the invisible Father, of the God who manifests his power above all by forgiveness and mercy: let the Church be your visible face in the world, its Lord risen and glorified. You willed that your ministers would also be clothed in weakness in order that they may feel compassion for those in ignorance and error: let everyone who approaches them feel sought after, loved, and forgiven by God. Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of us with its anointing, so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a year of grace from the Lord, and your Church, with renewed enthusiasm, may bring good news to the poor, proclaim liberty to captives and the oppressed, and restore sight to the blind. We ask this through the intercession of Mary, Mother of Mercy, you who live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever. Amen. This Sunday’s Gospel is the lead in to the “Bread of Life” readings for the next few weeks, the intense identification of us with Christ. Presider: Fr. Jim DeBruycker Pre-Mass Speaker: Today we welcome the Reverend Dr. John Philip Newell, formerly the Warden of Iona Abbey in Scotland, to speak on, Listening for the Heartbeat of God. He is a poet, peacemaker, scholar and author of many books including The Rebirthing of God, Christianity's Strug- gle for New Beginnings. He comes to us through Wisdom Ways Center for Spirituality (wisdomwayscenter.org). We welcome him this morning! Welcome Tim Roehl who joins our music makers this morning. Along with our own singer, guitarist, Deb Harley, they will inspire today's liturgies with two solos. Thank you as always! We will look for a pamphlet presentation of the Bull as well as the Encyclical on the Environ-ment. I suggest you go online to www.iubilaeummisericordiae.va and read the whole document.

Pope Francis’ Official Prayer of the Year of Mercy Lord Jesus Christ, you have taught us to be merciful like the heavenly Father,

and have told us that whoever sees you sees Him. Show us your face and we will be saved.

Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and Matthew from being enslaved by money; the adulteress and Magdalene from seeking happiness only in created things;

made Peter weep after his betrayal, and assured Paradise to the repentant thief. Let us hear, as if addressed to each one of us, the words that you spoke to the

Samaritan woman: “If you knew the gift of God!”

You are the visible face of the invisible Father, of the God who manifests his power above all by forgiveness and mercy: let the Church be your visible face in the world, its Lord risen and glorified. You willed that your ministers would also be clothed in weakness in order that they may feel compassion for those in ignorance and error: let everyone who approaches them

feel sought after, loved, and forgiven by God.

Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of us with its anointing, so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a year of grace from the Lord, and your Church, with renewed enthusiasm,

may bring good news to the poor, proclaim liberty to captives and the oppressed, and restore sight to the blind.

Jim DeBruycker

Pre-Mass Speaker: Today we welcome

the Reverend Dr. John Philip Newell, formerly the Warden of Iona Abbey in Scotland, to speak on, Listening for the Heartbeat of God.

He is a poet, peacemaker, scholar and author of many books including The Rebirthing of God, Christianity's Strug-gle for New Beginnings.

A Reminder to be attentive to your valuables when you are around the SJA campus. Not often, but we’ve had occasional thefts from purses or car break-ins. Please be careful!
