New name. Same mission.

In the spring of 1739, John Wesley broke with tradition and preached the Gospel to 2,000 coalminers in the fields of Kingswood, England. Crowds of 10,000 were reported that summer. Wesley immediately launched groups to disciple new believers. By June, he had laid the cornerstone for Kingswood College, the first school to prepare leaders for the Methodist revival.

This past year, Bethany Bible College (Sussex, New Brunswick, Canada) changed its name to become Kingswood University, a name reflecting the same values of evangelism, discipleship, and leadership training that Wesley maintained at Kingswood College.

While our name is new, our mission is the same:

Equipping Christ-like servant leaders for global impact!

Kingswood University is committed to preparing workers for the Harvest, those who proclaim the Gospel in word and deed. Around the globe, from Newfoundland to New Zealand; through music, drama, and service; ministering to youth, the elderly, the imprisoned, and the recovering addict; Kingswood students are impacting the world with the love of Christ.

This year’s graduates will be planting churches in Canada and teaching in Nepal. Our 2012 interns will serve in Canada, the USA, Brazil, Russia, and Japan. Today, with alumni serving in 27 countries, the sun never sets on a Kingswood University graduate who is answering God’s call to reach the lost, the least, and the lonely.

To God be the glory!

After successfully funding the tuition needs for two Wesleyan Bible Colleges in Africa, the Board of Trustees voted to continue the University’s involvement with preparing leaders for the African Church through One for Another. For a second year, Kingswood University will provide a full tuition scholarship for an African ministerial student (at one of the Wesleyan theological institutions in Africa) for every freshman student who enrols at Kingswood in Fall 2012.

“When a student enrols in Kingswood University, they become aware of the global impact that they can have in following God’s call on their life,” said President Gorveatte.“ One for Another serves as a model of global engagement and expresses our mission of equipping Christ-like servant leaders.”

This year Kingswood University provided sixty-four scholarships for African ministerial students enrolled at Xai Xai Wesleyan Bible College in Mozambique and at Gbendembu Wesleyan Bible School in Sierra Leone.

“These scholarships will drastically increase morale and lifestyle,” affirmed Rev. Scott Rhyno, Vice President for Enrolment and Communications, who visited Mozambique last fall. “There will be healthy, trained African pastors to disciple thousands of believers.”
