PRELIMINARY PROJECT – RESEARCH & PLANNING

•How did you think about target audience?

•I knew how to think about the target audience because we had to make a student magazine which made the target audience much easier because I am also a student so I know the sort of hobbies that most 16-18 year olds are interested in. Also I looked at other student magazines covers to help design my front cover and contents page.

•How did awareness of that audience impact upon your visual design and choice of language?

•The awareness of knowing the target audience helped me because the language I was going to use was colloquial and informal. Moreover it helped me construct ideas because I knew the type of issues and gossip that circulate around teenagers.

•What key points did you learn about Adobe Photoshop and InDesign in constructing your artefacts?

• In Photoshop and InDesign I learnt some of technical features in Photoshop and I learned about the baseline and document grid which helped me a lot to make my front cover and contents page.

REFLECTIONS & FEEDBACK•What would you do differently next time?

•What I would do differently is I will take more picture and make a more detailed plan of my work.

•What kind of feedback did you get that might influence you?

•The feedback I received was that we should not use pictures that do not relate to the magazine or the text and the images should not look a poster but they should look like a magazine front cover.

•What aspects of your understanding of Adobe Photoshop & InDesign do you need to improve?

•The aspects of Photoshop and InDesign I need to improve the technical features and the skills of using them to make my work look better and hopefully learn them so that I can get better marks.

THE MUSIC GENRE OF MY MUSIC MAGAZINE IS:

•Genre is Gospel. I chose this genre because its attracts a niche market that enjoy or have interest in gospel music. Furthermore the especially as the magazines to do with gospel are not updated to youth of today which my magazine will target.

•Chosen title is Gospel Generation because it identifies my genre and also my target audience through use of the word ‘Generation’ consisting of how it targeting the generation of youth but also the ‘Generation’ that has interest into Gospel music.

SO I RESEARCHED THIS GENRE OF MUSIC PUBLICATION AND STUDIED:

The significance of the masthead and the effect. As well as the main cover line and the other cover lines and the use and font and the alignment which contributed to the layout of the magazine and the relation to my genre. Moreover the colour scheme which attributed to the construction of magazine.

•Cover Design:

•Cover Lines:

WHAT I LEARNED FROM THIS WAS…..

The alignment of the cover lines has to precise The central image may be the background image or it could be over lapped with a colour Image must relate to the genre Must have the elements that apply to your magazine as well as the elements that relate to your genre.

Have to have different size font Use your colour scheme within the cover lines

FOR MY MUSIC MAGAZINE….

•Target Audience:

•Frequency: Monthly

•Cover price:

•Publisher: Deborah Fakehinde

•Unique Selling Point:

£2.00

My target audience is aimed at 16-20 that enjoy gospel music.

The magazine is target at a niche market of youth aged 16-20 that like gospel music, in which I have demonstrated through elements of my masthead, image and my cover lines which consist of the hobbies and influences that youth between 16-20 enjoy. Also because many Gospel magazines range at an older target market this is the reason that my magazine is aiming at a younger target market to widen the Gospel market.

Page 10: Presentation slides for_research_planning_evaluation part 1

The strapline underlines how that the magazine is made for Gospel music. Everything in the magazine relates to elements of the Gospel.

The masthead ‘Gospel Generation’ elevates the what the magazine stands for and it appeals to the target audience straight away.

The main image is of the 3 young models that are in choir robe in a long shot. The illustration of the central image compliments to the colour scheme which is purple and white. Furthermore the young models in the picture shows the relation to the magazine

The cover lines I have chosen relate to the genre of gospel and the elements that will interest my target audience

HERE ARE THE 4 ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPHS I SHOT FOR THE PROJECT……

Page 12: Presentation slides for_research_planning_evaluation part 1

I MODIFIED EACH PHOTOGRAPH; HERE IS THE ORIGINAL NEXT TO THE FINAL VERSION:

•Raw 1 •Final 1

•Here is how I changed the photograph and why •I changed the picture through Photoshop. I made the picture black and white and then I cropped parts of the background out. Making the picture black and white even with parts of the background showing it still creates the focus on model in the image.

Page 13: Presentation slides for_research_planning_evaluation part 1

AND THE SECOND ONE:

•Raw 2 •Final 2

•Here is how I changed the photograph and why• I changed this picture because there were difficulties in placing the picture into InDesign. So I cropped the picture and took the main image of the model in the studio.
