WHAT “ THERMOGRAPHY” MEANS?• Thermography or Thermology is the medical science that derives diagnostic indications

from highly detailed and sensitive infrared images of the human body.

• Also referred to as:

Infra-Red Imaging

Tele-Thermology

Utilizes high resolution & sensitive camera.

• Thermography is used for early

pre-clinical diagnosis and control

during treatment of homeostatic

imbalances.

• Uses digital imaging called as

(digital infrared thermal imaging - DITI ).

• Non-Invasive, non-contact tool.

• Uses heat of the body as

the measurement parameter.

COMPONENTS INVOLVED:• Uses only 2 parts:

1). The IR camera &

2). Computer.

Monitors are high-resolution

full colour PC based systems

therefore can store thousands

of images.

THERMOGRAPHIC CAMERA

GAURAV R. DESHMUKH

• Their resolution is considerably lower than of optical cameras, mostly only 160x120 or 320x240 pixels.

• 1 °C difference at the scene induces just a 0.03 °C difference at the sensor.

Cooled infrared detectors

Uncooled infrared detectors

ADVANTAGES OF THERMOGRAPHY

• It shows a visual picture so temperatures

over a large area can be compared.

• It is capable of catching moving targets

in real time.

• It is able to find deteriorating, i.e.,

higher temperature components prior

to their failure.

• It is a non-destructive test method

• It can be used to detect objects in dark areas.

LIMITATIONS OF THERMOGRAPHY

1).Quality cameras often have a high price range.2).Images can be difficult to interpret accurately when based upon certain objects, specifically objects with erratic temperatures.3).Most cameras have ±2% accuracy or worse in measurement.4).Only able to directly detect surface temperatures5).Condition of work, depending of the case, can be drastic.

THERMOGRAPHY APPLICATIONS.

• Breast pathologies

• Neuro-Musculo-Skeletal

• Vertebrae (nerve problems/arthritis)

• Lower Extremity Vessel Disease

• Respiratory dysfunctions

• Skin Problems
