INSPIRATION FOR INTERVIEW

Interviewee is friends with the founder of the Campus Food Pantry (CFP). She referred, and inspired me to volunteer there.

CFP is for students who are suffering from food insecurities.

Students can go once a week and get 10 lbs of food. The interviewee values giving back to others,

and was raised volunteering. With church- feeding homeless, and food drives. Her family of farmers donated extra crops to the

church and local food pantry. -Agricultural community

CURRENT OCCUPATIONS wakes up at 5:30 am to

wake up 2 of her grandchildren.

A third grandchild, who lives down the street, comes every morning to eat breakfast and get ready for school with the other kids.

After those grandchildren get on the bus, she crawls back into bed with her great grandchild until

10 a.m. She then makes

breakfast for her great grandchild, has coffee, and lets her watch cartoons until lunch at noon.

She then takes her outside to play, and sometimes takes her fishing, on the pontoon boat, or on a small adventure. (J.Z., personal communication, October 28,

2014)

She starts cooking dinner around 6 or 7:30 pm.

CURRENT OCCUPATIONS

still enjoys boating, bonfires, fishing, and cleaning deer meat

Spending time with her family

she no longer dances and does not enjoy music.

She also doesn’t get to play cards very often because she is always taking care of her great grandchild.

Since the original interview, her oldest granddaughter as well as her great granddaughter have moved out. This has given her

much more free time, and much less stress.

MOTIVATIONAL THEORY

A motivational theory that is closely linked to the interviewee would be Maslow’s motivational theory and Hierarchy of Needs:It includes the motivations to meet : physiological needs, safety needs, belongingness/ socialization needs, esteem needs, and self actualization needs (Snell, 2007).

(Snell, 2007).

Page 13: PRESENTATION FOR Occupations and participation

MASLOW’S MOTIVATIONAL THEORY AND HIERARCHY OF NEEDS

(Snell, 2007).

Page 14: PRESENTATION FOR Occupations and participation

SUGGESTED ACTIVITY #1 Volunteering would enhance this client’s life by

allowing her to have some time away from home and to engage with people other than family

members. I would suggest that she volunteer three or four

days per week at Cross City Rehab and Health Center, for approximately three or four hours at a time. A good time would be when her grandchildren are

at school. It would decrease stress, increase productivity,

sense of self, self-efficacy, and make her overall happier.

Volunteering would allow her reach the highest level on Maslow’s scale, which is the level of self actualization (Snell, 2007).

(Snell, 2007).

Page 15: PRESENTATION FOR Occupations and participation

SUGGESTED ACTIVITY #2 Card night once a week Benefit:

socialize with friends, have some adult time. it was one of her favorite hobbies throughout

her entire life, and she has not been able to play much due to lack of time.

This would also follow Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs It would be create a sense of social belonging, increase self-esteem, and would also help her reach levels of self

actualization.
