Occupationally Related Contests Contest Information

State Qualifying Exam: No National Contest: Yes Participation: Individual

Contest Description This competition recognizes students for their successful development of a professional portfolio. The competition evaluates the ability of the students to present themselves to a prospective employer. The competitors will show the use of the portfolio and use effective communication skills in presenting. The competition consists of a portfolio notebook and a live presentation by the contestant. Tasks To Be Evaluated

• Professional Portfolio o The knowledge performance portion of this contest is the creation of a professional

portfolio with title page, table of contents and six required sections in specific order. • Presentation

o The contest includes a live presentation by the contestant designed to evaluate the ability of an individual to present himself or herself to an employer using effective communication skills.

Clothing Requirement National Requirement:

• For men: Official red blazer or jacket, black dress slacks, white dress shirt, plain black tie with no pattern or SkillsUSA black tie, black socks and black shoes.

• For women: Official red blazer or jacket; black dress skirt (knee length) or slacks with businesslike white, collarless blouse or white blouse with small, plain collar that may not extend onto the lapels of the blazer; black sheer or skin-tone hose and black shoes.

State Requirement:

• National Requirement OR National Requirement OR Business Professional Attire (minnimum black dress pants, white dress shirt, dark socks with dress shoes) OR Plain Scrubs with no logo.

Supplies Provided by Technical Committee Projector and computer. Supplies Provided by Contestant Binder with completed portfolio following the guidelines listed on the technical standards and flash drive with presentation if needed. Additional Information Students should make sure to practice their presentation before hand and make sure it meets the time requirement of 5-7 minutes.
