The city of Bonn recognized an acute need for action, regardingthe digital transformation.
Chances:
Bonn has understood, that it cannot draw itself away from thedigitial transformation. The city has to position itself now in orderto maintain and expand its position within the European Union.
Bonn makes use of the available skill set and brings all keyplayers of the region to the table.The mayor of Bonn started theinitiative „Digitales Bonn“ in the end of 2015, together with the IT-and management consultancy axxessio, the EconomicDevelopment of Bonn and the Chamber of Commerce Bonn/Rhein-Sieg.
For an optimal cooperation, two bodies have been set up: theAdvisory Board and the Innovation Board.
Challenges:
The increasing digitalization of businessprocesses, information and communication insociety progresses.
The digital transformation will cause profoundstructural changes in the economy, cities andsociety in the next few years.
Studies forecast e.g. a fundamental change intodays work environment with on the onehand job losses and on the other hand manynew opportunities for business activities.

Objective:
The participants of the Advisory Board and of theinnovation of boards have set the followingobjective:
Bonn will put the opportunities ofthe digital transformation for theeconomy, administration, politics,education and civic participationinto practise
To achieve this goal, the Innovation Board wasdevided into four thematic groups:

What can we dofor theadministration,society andeconomy, sothat they canbenefit from thedigitaltransformation?
Qualificationand Education
How can weprepare thesociety withregard to digitaltechnologies andhow can webroaden theirexisting skills?
IT Security
• How can weuse digitaltechnologies toprotect thesociety?
• How can weuse theexisting ITsecurityenvironment toposition the cityof Bonn?

» The kick-off meeting of the Innovation Board took place on April 15, 2016. We can look back to 2/3 of the total time.» The number of participants in the Innovation Board increased to almost 70 persons. Great interest exists in participating.» Different sub-groups have been formed out of the four main groups. They meet each other frequently in order to discuss ideas and prepare project proposals.
All participants are highly motivated and work constructively with a high level of commitment of everyone involved.

» The digital hub of Bonn has prevailed in the funding competition of theState of NRW; total €5 million (2.5 million € from the region and thestate) over 5 years financial support has been promised for the timebeing.
