• 3.3 billion people live in cities.• 60% will live in cities by 2030. • Almost 180,000 people move into cities each day.• 60 million people move into cities each year in developing countries. • Over the next 15 to 20 years, many cities in Africa and Asia will double in size.

By 2015, there will be 23 cities with a population over 10 million, 19 of which will be in developing countries.

Topical problems:

• Lack of infrastructure services

• Lack of property rights

• Enviromental (air,water, sound…pollution)

• Social (religion, traditions, unemployment, traffic increasinghuge number of accidents)
