Southeast False Creek once stood as the foundation of the heavy industry within the Vancouver region. The unique shape of the basin, a historically varied shoreline and a traditionaly dense surrounding offer an extremely unique opportunity to enstill a heavy sense of place and cultural identity within a thriving urban village. The adaptive use of the Salt Buildingas the core social and commercial district creates animportant foundation for the cultural bond in the site.

The integration of fundemental energy effecencies, an emphasis on local agriculture, passive design strategies and net zero buildings create a truly environmentally friendly and forward thinking urban village. The most impressive sustainable factor of Southeast False Creek is the immense water managment system that catches rainwater on all rooftops and stores it for toilet facillites and argicultural irrigation at times of drought. Furthermore, any run-off from streets, pavement and grassland is directed into a pond in hinge park to remove pathogens and sand before being visible to the public to raise awareness of the importance of ecological systems. 45
