Influential Magazine CoversI like the simple feel that this cover has. The pink and blue text add detail and give it a fun or uplifting feel. The ampersand sign adds some sophistication to the cover and I would like to replicate this feel on my own design.

This cover has a sophisticated feel to it due to the pose of the model and the black and blue text. The text is interesting to look at and still easy to read – it is important that I use this style of text on my own cover.

Influential Magazine Covers

The neutral colours on these covers suggest that the magazines are unique and do not focus on mainstream music. As I am planning to create a magazine which does not concentrate on mainstream music I can take inspiration from the colours and the poses of the artists on the covers.

Influential Magazine CoversI really like the style of the masthead on this cover. It’s quirky and stands out well against the grey background. The magazine states that they focus on indie style and I think the masthead definitely supports and promotes this idea. My magazine is going to focus on alternative/indie music so I think something individual like this would be an appropriate for my magazine cover.

I think the pose of the artists makes the magazine seem instantly interesting. It’s not a typical pose or something that you would see on a mainstream music magazine. The use of black and white text stands out against the background image and looks very eye catching.

Masthead Designs

After browsing through various fonts I’ve decided that because my music magazine is going to focus on musicians that do not produce mainstream music a masthead with a handwritten font would be appropriate and fit in with the theme of the magazine as it will add a unique aspect to the design. Whilst I like the fonts below I don’t think they fit in as well with the theme of my design; for example the fifth font seem likes something that you would expect to see on a dance magazine and therefore is not something I want to use on mine.

Unique Selling Point

The magazine primarily focuses on unsigned musicians. These artists produce a unique sound and don't feel the need to conform to the restraints of today's mainstream music. Because of these qualities the magazine has an integrity as the readers know that the artists genuinely enjoy making music and are not doing it only because the want to be ‘famous.’ As the magazine is not aimed at mainstream music lovers there is a smaller readership which in turn produces a sense of community between the magazine and its readers. Readers are frequently given opportunities to contribute to and shape the magazine.
