prayer for the week - stmichael.qld.edu.au
TRANSCRIPT
Dear Parents and Care Givers, Recently, we celebrated All Saints Day on 1st November. The children participated beautifully in our whole school mass, and by all reports the singing was sensational! A huge thanks to Mrs Hession for preparing and leading this celebration. On the feast of All Saints, we remember and celebrate all of God’s saints—the famous saints and heroes of our Church and the many ordinary people, who have lived good lives and are now with God in heaven. Can you think of a person you know who serves God in a special way? A person who is a saint to you? A person who follows Jesus’ example? This week offer a prayer of thanks to God for bringing that special person into your life. The challenge for each of us is to see how we can be ‘saints’ towards one another. Our prayer this week reminds us that to be generous to others is a saint-like quality which would make the world a better place.

Prayer for the Week
Prayer for Generosity (St Ignatius of Loyola)
Eternal Word, only begotten Son of God, teach me true generosity. Teach me to serve you as you deserve.
To give without counting the cost, to fight heedless of wounds, To labour without seeking rest, to sacrifice myself without thought of any reward
Save the knowledge that I have done your will. Amen.

School Disco The P&F are holding a School Disco on Friday 20th November. We need parent support to assist with the supervision and catering for the night. Please help out where you can.
Bump Up Day On Thursday 12th November all students will have the opportunity to “Bump Up” for the morning to their class for 2016. Please be aware that the teacher your child works with on that day may not be the teacher they have in 2016 as staffing will not be finalized for some time. Parents will find out their class teacher in the week before school starts in 2016. Year 6 children attending Catholic High Schools will be at an Orientation Day on this day. Other Year 6 students will attend school as normal.
Report Cards Teachers are working hard over the next couple of weeks preparing report cards for the end of the year. I would like to remind all families that if school fee accounts are outstanding or no arrangement made with me, then report cards will be withheld until accounts are paid. I thank you in anticipation of your support with this matter.
Ryan Dobbie Achievement Award In memory of Ryan Dobbie, who passed away at the age of 18 months to cancer, two awards will be presented to students of St Michael's who have made an achievement in either their learning or sporting abilities throughout their time at St Michael’s School. The successful students will show the same qualities that Ryan possessed. Even though his life was taken at a young age, he was full of courage, determination and had the strength to endure more than most people could ever think possible. There will be two awards of $50 and the winning students will have their name engraved on the shield which has been donated to the school. A copy of the nomination form is available in the school newsletter or at the office. Please consider a student who may be worthy of a nomination.
Farewell Mass for Year 6 The Farewell Mass for Year 6 will be held on Wednesday, December 2nd at 6:00pm. Please
feel welcome to join the students and families who are leaving our school community.
End of Year Mass The Thanksgiving Mass will be held on the last day of the 2015 School Year at 9am. This is an opportunity to give thanks for the year. We welcome all parents and carers to attend this Mass with us.
Catholic schools to follow suit on pupil free day
Catholic school children will have a pupil free day on
Monday, January 25 after Education Minister Kate Jones
declared that state schools would start next year on
Wednesday, January 27, after the Australia Day public
holiday on January 26.
Catholic Education Services Executive Director, Bill
Dixon said as some parents had students in both
education systems and to avoid complications with the
school bus transport system, it made sense for Catholic
schools to fall into line with the state system and also
declare a pupil free day.
“I am sure many families will be grateful for the
extended summer break,” he said.
The pupil free day on January 25 will be a once-off
additional pupil free day for the year.

APRE NEWS
REMEMBRANCE DAY
God of Peace, Your Son taught us that dying leads us into new life. We remember all the courageous men and women
who willingly sacrificed their lives in wartime, so that our lives today would be full and free. Their bravery brought us liberation and peace. Set free the ones who suffer oppression in war-torn nations throughout the world today. We ask this prayer in the name of Jesus whose death brought life to the world.
Amen.
This Wednesday is Remembrance Day. St. Michael’s will acknowledge this through a whole school prayer at 8.35 am on the basketball courts, in class learning activities, and senior student participation in community ceremonies.
LEADERSHIP The feedback from the Christian Leadership day delivered to the Year 5 students last week was overwhelmingly positive. Parents talked to me about how excited and energised their children were, and the students definitely were inspired towards becoming great leaders in 2016.
Year 5 and 6 students were celebrated at a whole school assembly this week for their successful leadership of the Peer Support program, which ended last week. The ‘Promoting Harmony’ module that they taught focused on values, and as leaders the students developed the skills of leadership, group facilitation, organisation, assertiveness and decision - making. UPCOMING LITURGY AND MASS DATES
This week the Year 2 classes will celebrate Liturgy on Thursday at 2pm. They will also lead this Friday’s Assembly prayer.
In Week 7 the Year 1 class will celebrate Liturgy, and Prep in Week 8. Both of these Liturgies will be on the Thursday at 9am in the Church.
Week 8 also sees the Year 3 students make their First Reconciliation on Wednesday the 25
th at 6pm in the
Church.
In the final week of school we have a Whole School Mass on Friday the 4
th at 9am. It would be wonderful to see as
many families as possible at this celebration, as we will be acknowledging the service and leadership that Mrs Lea Martin has offered to St. Michael’s.
The Year 6 Graduation Mass and celebrations are also held in Week 8. Blessings, Sarah Hession

The Gordonvale Breast Screen Queensland Mobile Service is coming! The mobile service will be based at the Gordonvale Hospital from the 23
rd – 26
th of November 2015.
A breast screen can pick up changes in the breast tissue, often before they can be seen by a woman or a doctor. By the time we feel something it’s usually about the size of a ten cent piece whereas a breast screen can pick up something the size of a pin prick. Women aged 50-74 are strongly recommended to screen every 2 years during the highest risk period for developing breast cancer. All women 40 years and over are eligible.
