Dear WPI Community:

The Career Development Center (CDC) is pleased to present the Post-Graduation Report for the class of 2015. With information on 1,420 of 1,671 graduates in the class, we have a comprehensive picture of their first destination as alumni.

Again this year, WPI can boast a very strong success rate: 91.7% of graduates for whom we have outcomes data were either employed, entering graduate school, serving in the military, or participating in volunteer service (such as City Year, Teach for America, etc.).

WPI graduates continue to experience a very high return-on-investment (ROI) as indicated by this report and other sources. For example in 2015, WPI was ranked 16th in the nation for educational ROI by Payscale.com. Also, Princeton Review recognized WPI in 2015 as 8th in the country for “best career placement” and 15th for “top internship opportunities”.

We believe the CDC’s educational programs aimed at enhancing students’ job search skills, along with the improving economy, have contributed to a nearly 7% increase in average starting salary for WPI’s class of 2015 bachelor’s degree graduates.

Methodology:

For this report the Career Development Center (CDC) surveys and/or researches each of WPI’s graduating students that received their degrees in October 2014, February 2015, or May 2015. Information is collected through a variety of channels, with the majority of the information being self-reported by the graduating students.

Students completed surveys indicating their post-graduation plans and average salary information. If students have not reported to the CDC or responded to our phone campaign, then the office outreaches to faculty, staff, and employers for their information. The remaining pool is then researched on job-related social media sites to determine what information is shared publicly and recently.

In the case of average salaries, the CDC has protected student information by only reporting averages for those majors with two or more graduates providing salary data. In rare instances only one student is in a major and reports their salary. In this case, we have chosen to remove the data from the major presentation to protect student information, but still include the data in the aggregate numbers. With a significant number of respondents, this report provides a very clear and accurate picture of the WPI graduating class.

Glossary of Terms:

Employed Students that select “Employed” have indicated achievement of obtaining a full or part time professional opportunity post-graduation.

Graduate School Students that select “Graduate School” are pursuing a master’s degree, professional degree, or doctoral degree beyond their completed degree.

Military Some students participate in the ROTC program and continue their professional career within a branch of the US military. Others may enlist separately from the ROTC program.

Volunteer Service Some students select to participate in a volunteer or service program.

Seeking This selection indicates that a student is still seeking employment or graduate school. The WPI Employment CDC makes a point to continuously outreach to this population.

Not Seeking Some students have selected to not pursue employment or graduate school at this time.

Planning to Attend Students that select “Planning to Attend Graduate School” have indicated that they are Graduate School Graduate School-intending to pursue, but are not yet enrolled in a graduate program.

Success Rate The proportion of graduates for whom the CDC has outcomes data who are employed, in graduate school, serving in the military, or in a volunteer service.

Knowledge Rate The proportion of graduates for whom the CDC has reasonably reliable career outcomes data.

Double Majors Double Majors are represented in each program page reported for the Post-Graduation Outcomes. However, these students with two majors are only counted once in the aggregate numbers presented for the class.

NA vs. Zero (0) On each program page, NA means the degree is not offered and zero (0) means that no student graduated in this particular year from the program.
