Santa Maria da Vitria, more commonly known as BatalhaMonastery, is one of the best and original examples of Late Gothicarchitecture in Portugal, intermingled with the Manueline style.

promise of King John I of Portugal.

Mafra National Palace is a monumental Baroque Italianized Neoclassicalpalace-monastery located in Mafra, some 28 kilometres from Lisbon. Itsdimensions are so huge that it dwarfs the city.

The palace, which also served as a Franciscan monastery, was built duringthe reign of King John V (17071750).

The Sanctuary of Ftima is a Roman Catholic Marian basilicain Ftima. Its construction began in 1928 and was finished

in1953.

It was built at the site of the Marian apparitions reported by

three children in 1917.

May and 13 October.

Alcobaa Monastery is a Medieval Monastery located in the town

of Alcobaa. It was founded by the first Portuguese King, AfonsoHenriques, in 1153.

The church and monastery were the first Gothic buildings inPortugal. Due to its artistic and historical importance, it was listed
