Pick an emotion card and use only facial expressions to convey what is written on the card: excited, scared, upset, nervous etc. Stimulus: Display images of people with a range of emotions conveyed through their facial expression. Key Question: Why might he/she be feeling like this? Key Question: Who or what could help them when they are feeling this? Choose an emotion discussed (appropriate to the children at the time) to introduce a puppet who is feeling this way for a particular reason. Encourage the children to put into practise some of their ideas for how people can be helped when feeling a given emotion (over-excited/nervous/worried/upset). Time for reflection: Model the thought process of the puppet as the children offer their support/advice. Key Question: Did your words/ideas help? How? Why? Positive conclusion: Display images of families/friends/places of worship/clubs and explain that feeling alone can make the emotions we feel even harder to deal with. Explain that sharing how we feel and talking to those we trust can really help. Continue the learning: Display a photograph of the puppet and encourage children to sticky note helpful advice/words of encouragement around the image.
