Delphi TcC Pilot Use Cases

Page 10: PLM World Conference 2007

DRAFT – For Discussion OnlyElectronics & Safety Design Reviews: Use Case #1

Before Teamcenter Community

Unable to effectively hold on-line conference meetings with Mexico & Asia Pacific region

Tools such as NetMeeting and Meeting Center were painfully slow

Cannot effectively share OpenGL applications such as shaded 3D CAD models with suppliers

Page 11: PLM World Conference 2007

DRAFT – For Discussion OnlyElectronics & SafetyDesign Reviews: Use Case #1

Using Teamcenter Community

Fits the immediate need in our situation to conduct live on-line business in China

TcC application software which is installed on individual conference participant’s computers allows the application sharing sessions to proceed at a faster pace

Suppliers can effectively share shaded 3D CAD models including dynamic rotation

More powerful and faster transfer of large files during application sharing sessions than other similar products

Page 12: PLM World Conference 2007

DRAFT – For Discussion OnlyElectronics & SafetyPilot Results

E&S expect a savings of at least 2 international trips per tooling program or $10,000 per trip per person

“TcC is a critical tool enabling us to take full advantage of off-shore, low cost tooling suppliers.”

David J. Post

Delphi, Supplier Technical Development Manager

“There has been increasing usage of Teamcenter Community Application Sharing tool here in Singapore. One of my colleagues is using the application bi-weekly with vendors and Kokomo from his home, the RSE team he is with finds it helpful to conference from home rather than staying late at night in the office.”

Michael Chung

Senior Engineer, MCAD/CAE, Electronics & Safety

Delphi Automotive Systems Singapore Pte Ltd

Page 13: PLM World Conference 2007

DRAFT – For Discussion Only

Before Teamcenter Community

Cumbersome, manual security

Difficult to find and transfer documents

Using Teamcenter Community

Is a secure standards repository for users worldwide

Increased Security

Login and password protected

Workspaces - Only have access if you have permissions

Shared Documents in multiple workspaces

Permission folders - Users only have access if they have permissions

Routing documents to other team members with proper permissions

Site Map to maneuver multiple levels of workspaces

Powertrain SystemsBill of Test: Use Case #2

Page 14: PLM World Conference 2007

DRAFT – For Discussion OnlyMedical Systems Use Case #3

Before TcC Supplier A would send data to

Delphi user Delphi user would then alert supplier

B data is available Supplier B is 9 hours ahead of

Delphi user and would already have left for the day

Lost one day per transaction

Supplier BSupplier A

Using TcC

The constraint of having an intermediary is removed from process

Includes security for data access and data encryption

Users receive email notification when data is available

Suppliers A and B can collaborate in real time

Teamcenter Community

Page 15: PLM World Conference 2007

DRAFT – For Discussion OnlyProduct & Service SolutionsSoftware Issue Tracking: Use Case #4

Before Teamcenter Community External sites logged issues from outside Delphi Security - restricts

external user access to submitted issues Developers needed a tool to collaborate with external suppliers

on product design

Using Teamcenter Community Software issue tracking system for Delphi and suppliers

Tracks software issues throughout the software development process.

Track multiple software projects on multiple sites. Configured TcC list to map the desired process

Track the number of issues open, closed, bug, etc. Groups issues into levels of severity

Also used for Supplier data communication (similar to use case #3)

Page 16: PLM World Conference 2007

DRAFT – For Discussion OnlyIndependent Aftermarket: Use Case #5

Before Teamcenter Community

Needed a tool to collaborate on documents between internal and external resources

Needed Security to restrict external user access to specific documents

No existing solution in place

Using Teamcenter Community

Collaboration on documents between internal resource and external resources

Security restricts external user access to specific documents

Able to reconfigure access as requirements change

Change Control: Document changes log (date/time and person)

DRAFT – For Discussion OnlyElectronics & SafetyTool Design Reviews

Extensive use for tool design reviews including cross functional participants simultaneously from multiple global locations.

Example: E&S issued a PO from Mexico Tech Center for 4 plastic molding tools.  Every day for a week our team had on-line reviews for the tool design. Participants included a China supplier, the Mexico Technical Center, Mexico Manufacturing site, U.S. Tool support.  The team covered all aspects of tool design. At end of meeting the tool design is approved and can go right into the manufacturing stage. This review was done without international travel or time loss from the office for many engineers.  The quick approval process allows the supplier to maximize their time efficiency.
