Research on learning suggests that students:1. Need to master the details of content to

be able understand content structure.

2. Need repeated exposure to lectures in order to master the content.

3. Usually organize new content in a more rigid manner than Instructors.

4. Benefit most when instruction provides for auditory and visual learning styles.

What do you think the answer is?

The link between teaching, learning and research

• Good teaching is informed by subject discipline research– Teaching and learning are often structured around subject

specific disciplines– The foundational body of knowledge for learning is largely

developed through research activities such as research projects, publications, and involvement in a research community.

• Teaching is also informed by research into teaching and learning

• When this happens, teaching practice becomes scholarly
