PLANT A TREE - ROMANIA

Trees are very important for us because they give us fresh air, food, shelters and fire.

In Romania, there are two types of trees: coniferous and deciduous.

The deciduous trees are located between 600-1300 m and the coniferous are located between 1300 – 1900 m.

Coniferous Trees

Coniferous trees grow upward rather than outward and have a triangular shape. This makes the conifer tree strong and keeps its branches from breaking under the weight of snow. The leaves on a coniferous tree are either long, pointed needles or are small, flat scales. The needles or scales will stay on the tree for several years and fall off gradually.

In Romania you can find spruce, fir and pine.

Deciduos Trees

Deciduous trees spread out as they grow and have a more rounded shape than the coniferous trees. Two common examples of deciduous trees are oaks and maples. Deciduous trees have broad, flat leaves that catch a lot of light but cannot survive without warmth and water.

Deforestation In Romania

Between 1990 and 2011, hundreds of thousands of hectares of Romanian forest were deforested, both by private companies and the government. About 900 hectares of woodland disappeared over a period of four years in the region of Arges alone without anyone noticing – until 2012, when a reforestation process started.

Stop the deforestation!

There is desperate need for new measures. The most effective would be to control the manufacturing and processing of plants and forbid companies from using illegal wood.

In Romania, if you see a truck full of trunks you can call 112 and they will tell you if that is a legal or an illegal transport.

Protests In Romania

In Romania, we had a protest for keeping the trees alive.

This protest took place in 15 cities and the people had the chance to a free speach.
