Target audience (Age, gender, socio-economic status and lifestyle profiling): Our target audience is for males and females age twelve to thirty, therefore we are targeting socio- economic groups E, D and C2. We think that those as young as twelve and old as 30 would be intrigued by our narrative based on gaming as gaming is a current and popular trend in modern society. For example according to http://www.theesa.com/facts/gameplayer.asp the average gamer is 30 years old and has been playing for 13 years. It’s also stated that 45% of all players are women; hence we are not conforming to the stereotype of aiming our production to males simply because it based on a game. Our target audience may also be able to relate to Elliott the main character as nowadays there is a lot of pressure to be successful which can ultimately lead to breaking the rules. Scheduling/publishing suggestions: By releasing our film in the cinemas, particularly in multiplexes, more people would be aware our film. Also it is likely that word of mouth will persuade people to go watch it. After cinema release we would like to distribute our film through DVD and Blu-Ray so that the audience have the option to watch it in the comfort of their own home. This also gives us the Planning Brief

Brief overview of contrite: Two teenagers Elliott and Uzair are playing PS3

when Uzair teases Elliott about his ability to play-

stating that Elliott is only good because of the

controller he has. Elliott decides to stop playingand goes to get a drink - Uzair follows. As they walk

down the stairs Elliott notices the front door has

been left open and he suspects it was Uzair’s fault.

As Elliott leaves the house the door slams and

Uzair is left inside. To Elliott’s knowledge, Uzair is

messing around. Behind Elliott, two men in suits

appear and ask for his controller. Elliott runs and

more men follow him until he reaches a corner to

meet more men, one punches Elliott. Elliott then

wakes up in his room, goes over to his window andsees one of the men outside.

Target audience (Age, gender, socio-economic

status and lifestyle profiling):

Our target audience is for males and females age

twelve to thirty, therefore we are targeting socio-

economic groups E, D and C2. We think that those

as young as twelve and old as 30 would be

intrigued by our narrative based on gaming as

gaming is a current and popular trend in modern

society. For example according tohttp://www.theesa.com/facts/gameplayer.asp the

average gamer is 30 years old and has been playing for

13 years. It’s also stated that 45% of all players are

women; hence we are not conforming to the

stereotype of aiming our production to males simply

because it based on a game. Our target audience may

also be able to relate to Elliott the main character

as nowadays there is a lot of pressure to be

successful which can ultimately lead to breaking

the rules.

Scheduling/publishing suggestions: By releasing our film in the cinemas, particularly in

multiplexes, more people would be aware our film. Also it is likely that word of mouth will persuade

people to go watch it.

After cinema release we would like to distribute

our film through DVD and Blu-Ray so that the

audience have the option to watch it in the

comfort of their own home. This also gives us the

opportunity to gain more fans of the film if they

haven’t seen our production in the cinema.

Ideally, our production would be screened before

or after a well-established film on a movie channel

like Sky Premiere. More specifically, it will be

beneficial if it was shown on Sky Action as our

narrative falls into this genre and we would be

directly targeting those who are enthusiasts of the

action genre. As the certification of our film is

twelve, there is flexibility as to when and what

time our film would be shown due to the fact that

it does not have to be shown after watershed.

What film(s) are comparable to our production

that you have researched?

The matrix- the costumes are comparable as our

group of extras who play the gamers are in suits.

Also, Elliott questions whether what had happened

was real or dream, just like Neo questioned hisreality.

What is rationale behind this production? 1.  Commonly, action films are set in ordinary

locations because this creates a sense of

realism for the audience. Therefore we

have chosen to incorporate this convention

within our production so that the audience

can recognise that we are trying to emulate

the action genre. Also, by having an

ordinary location it creates tension for the

audience because not even Elliott knowswhat is going on in his own surroundings.

2.  Nevertheless typically in action films, the

protagonist is Caucasian whilst the

antagonist is foreign, however we decided

to challenge this stereotype as we live in a

multicultural society and we believe that

our cast selection can be relatable.

3.  The rationale behind Elliott not giving up his

controller easily is that it symbolises his

masculinity, strength and power -qualitiesthat teenager’s desire.

What representations are present in this

production?

1.  Elliott is portrayed as brave as he runs from

men who could potentially put his life in

danger. This is a typical trait of a

protagonist as they will try to do anything

in order to prosper.

2.  The casual wear that both Elliott and Uzair

are wearing represents them to be laid back

and easy going. This keeps to thestereotype that teenagers are relaxed.

3.  Uzair is represented as jealous by his

mannerisms such as the way he looks at

and talks to Elliott. This shows that males

are competitive – an example of hegemonic

masculinity.

4.  Anwar and Anish the two main ‘gamers’

who ask Elliott for his controller are

represented as demanding and

intimidating. Commonly, men like to show

that they are in control as this symbolises

power.

How will you verify whether the product is

successful and meets your expectations?

The pre questionnaire will tell us what the

audience are expecting of us in order to produce a

well-constructed opening sequence of the thriller

genre, whereas the post questionnaire will provide

feedback of our production. Negative feedback willsuggest that we have poorly made an opening

sequence and have ignored the audience’s

suggestions. On the other had positive feedback

connotes that we have succeeded and considered

our target audience.

What generic codes and conventions will be

present?

Protagonist is male, young and attractive

  Key props – Controller, sunglasses

  Fast paced sounds

  Fast paced editing

Antagonists want to get rid of the

protagonist

  Realistic lighting

What are the overt messages within the

production?

  Elliott shouldn’t have the controller

Males are stereotyped as dominant and

competitive

What concealed messages are within theproduction?

Are there any resource constraints that may affect

the production?

We have to book a date in order to have

our filming equipment on time

Having all the correct equipment for filming

Money can be an issue as we need it to buy

specific props such as sunglasses

Time management could potentially be an

issue as we have to work hard andeffectively to meet the deadline. Also cast

members have to be punctual.

Our actors need to be able to portray our

characters effectively
