    SCOTCH YOKE MECHANISM

    The scotch yoke is a mechanism for converting the linearmotion of a slider into rotational motion or vice-versa

    The piston or other reciprocating part is directly coupled toa sliding yoke with a slot that engages a pin on the rotating

    part

    This mechanism is used to convert the rotary motion into

    reciprocating motion

    The shape of the motion of the reciprocating part is a puresine wave over time given a constant rotational speed

    PLANING Planing is the operation of truing up a piece of wood

    by a planer.This is known as facing and edging

    WORKING The rotating part is connected with the motor. When the

    motor starts run the rotating part start to rotate. One ballis attached with the rotating part

    The ball is used to reciprocate the reciprocating part withrespect to the rotation of circular disc(rotating part)

    The planing tool is fixed with the end of the reciprocating

    part and the movement of reciprocating part is use to planthe wood surface

    DESIGN CALCULATIONVelocity of Reciprocating part =(Distance/Time)

    = (200/15)

    = 13 mm/sec

    Material Removal Rate (MRR) =v * f* d

    v=velocity of tool=velocity of reciprocating part

    f=feed

    d=depth of cut

    MRR=13*15*5=975 mm^3/sec

    Required power = k * MRR

    k=constant based on hardness of wood

    DESIGN CALCULATION Power = 1 * 975 * 10^-6 HP = 0.727 watt For Rotating part,

    Power =2NT/60 0.727=2*2*T/60 Torque(T)=3.47 Nm =) Force * Distance =3.47 Nm m*a*r=3.47

    m=mass of circular disc a=acceleration=r*^2 r=radius 0f circular disc=0.15 m =720/60=12 rad/sec
