CALL FOR INTEREST HANDS–ON RADON MITIGATION TRAINING

FIVE DAY COURSE

We will be hosting a FREE radon mitigation training program aimed at Carpenters/Contractors, with support staff.

Typically, a good size crew for this type of work would be a head carpenter (who coordinates the work and material purchases from

one job to the next and an experienced carpenter on site doing the work with 1 or 2 labourers.

Requirements: - Experienced carpenter on site that is used to doing different types of renovation work in residential homes (needs to have all the

basic carpentry tools necessary to do renovation work) Note: having some basic work experience in electrical and plumbing work

would be an asset. Must not be afraid of heights since there will besome roof work from time to time.

- Experienced labourer or labourers that are used to doing renovation work

Typical tasks for radon mitigation work: - Make holes through concrete floors and walls with large hammer drills

- Make holes through floors and ceilings to pass PVC piping

- Make holes through roof to pass piping and install roof flanges

- Install insulation over piping

- Measure, cut, glue, install and support piping throughout the house (4`PVC piping) - Basic plumbing work

- Make covers for open sump pump basins in the basement of homes + installing sump pumps as required

- Basic electrical work installing plug/switch for radon fan

- Caulking and sealing of concrete floor and wall cracks

- Basic finishing work (cutting shelving, boxing in piping, baseboards, facings, etc.)

- Install radon fans onto piping using specialized rubber couplings

- Use of expanding foam to insulate hard to get at areas

- Installing and sealing vapor barrier membranes over crawl space floors

- Cutting siding and installing exterior trim rings for radon mitigation exhaust piping

Robin Tinney, from the Bancroft area who now lives in Toronto,

is proposing that all Algonquin Artists come together.

His hope is to organize a group that would contribute Algonquin

art to an exhibition at the Art Gallery of Bancroft for the whole

month of August 2016.

This exhibition would draw attention to the artistic ability of
