Students interested in physical education need aptitude in mathematics and science, good communication skills, and ability to present themselves physically to demonstrate detailed movement. Previous experience in athletics or intramurals is desirable, along with leadership ability. Coaches must be resourceful and flexible when instructing and motivating individuals and groups. BSC’s program provides the first two years of study toward a bachelor’s degree with or without a teaching credential. Specialized coursework includes injury care/prevention, first aid/CPR, personal and community health, and elective courses in officiating, dance and wellness. The program provides four semesters of athletics, where participating students learn fundamental skills and strategies for a variety of sports. Graduates earn an Associate in Arts degree. Employment of coaches and scouts is projected to grow 15 percent through 2022, faster than the average for all occupations.
