Course Aims

Are able to play a prominent and constructive role in the development of physical education, dance and sport for children and young people, both within the school, and in partnership with other children’s services and agencies in the community;

 Have an understanding of physical education involving the synthesis and application of relevant academic, practical and professional perspectives;

 Have acquired a specialist understanding and competence in specific aspects of physical education;

 Are competent newly qualified teachers with insight into their own professional development.

Have met UCET / ITE Standards for progression to NQT.

Role of the PE teacher 2013/14+

Interpret and deliver the National Curriculum.

Teach GCSE, A level, BTEC (or related examination subjects pending Government reforms), Leadership.

Provide a wide range of extra - curricular activities involving representative sport and recreational activity.

Liaise with a growing range of partners in the community including:

Sport development officers, leisure facility managers, local junior clubs, etc.

Control the planning and delivery of physical education, sport and dance development programmes both within and outside the curriculum

Course aims

To enable students to;

To enable students to understand concepts of physical education through a synthesis and application of relevant academic, practical and professional perspectives.

To enable students to acquire specialist knowledge, understanding and competence in specific aspects of physical education.

To enable students to recognise the distinctive nature of the knowledge and skills applicable to a variety of work based settings demonstrating insight into how to promote their employability.

To allow students to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of how to promote the learning of others in a variety of contexts.

Transferable skills to other situations (interpretation of data; IT competencies; decision making; communication and presentation; teamwork; moral and ethical judgment; and other professional and interpersonal skills).
