  • Itsnotjusttheauraoftheimageattheendofyourshotbuttheexpeditiononetakestofindaparadigmtoframeandkeepforever.Encapsulat-ingtheideaswithinaframeisoneofthehardestthingstodowithoutforgettingwhyyouretakingtheimage.Photographyisawayofcommunicatingcomplexideasinasimpleform. MythreeseriesofimagesaremyexpressionsofwhatIvelearntfromphotographyandhowitinfluencesthewayIperceivetheworldaroundme.Thefirstseriesisacompletemetaphorfortheinsecuritieswefacewithinamodernsocietywithallthesocialnetworkingaroundus.Thesecondseriesfacesthetruthaboutthetimewewastewhilethinkingasdesigners.Thethirdseriesisaboutencapsulatingfourthdimensionmomentinathirddimensionalform.

  • Asitstands,myidentityisabouthowweuseandseekoutwaysofun-isolatingourselvesfromthefearsofselfisolationandselfaloneness,thatwecreatewithinourselves.Weuseandcometogripswithhowwecanfinddigitalexpressionsthatcannetworkourpersonalselvestotheworldandexpresswhoweare.Howeverattimesitgetstosuchapointwherethedigitalselftakescontrolandweendupembodyingourselvesdigitally,loosingourrealselfamongstthedigitalexistence. Mysetofimagescommunicatesthisbyshowingselfdiscoverythroughtheemptyvoidofisolationandthenbringsforthameansofcommunicatingtotheoutsideworld,onlytobehinderedbythepitfalloftoomuchrelianceonthedigitalselfwecreate,tothepointwhereafascistdigitalselfisallweareleftwith.

  • Purely,thisprojectwashardintermsoffindingaconceptualideaandstickingtoit.Fromexploringthisprocessthroughanarrative.Iwasabletodiscovertheparadigmofwastingtime.Theideaitselfisametaphorfortheprojectathandbecauseforalackofanyother,wastedtimeiswhattookplacemost.IfoundmyselfatwarwithwhatIwantedtodooriginallywhichwastocreatelayersofliesthatweseewithinourownreality.IcametotheconclusionthatifIwasgoingtonotusemytimewiselytoproduceanarrativethenIshoulddocumentaformofwastingtime,populartotheculturearoundme.AsIexploredtheideaofwastingtimeIcametotheconclusionofmynarrativefocalpointofaskingmyselfwhatwewasteourtimedoingmost.TheanswerwasquiteapparentbecauseIwasdoingitwithoutrealising.Iwasdaydreaming. Daydreamingistheshortnarrativeofyourtypicaldesignstudent.Arguablymostofourtimeisconsumedby,justplainthinking.Thestorybeginswitharestlessstudentstaringoutthewindowwishingtheyweredoingsomethingelse.Thenaflashofbeingtakenawaytotheirhappyplaceenliststheideaofdoingwhattheywouldratherbedoingatthatmomentinstead.Thenarrativeendswiththestudentallrelaxedandcontemptwiththedaydream.

  • Themainparadigmwastotryandcreatealayeredmedium,thatbestshowedthetonallayersthatmultipleexposedimageshave,inaformthatexpresseditinathreedimensionalreality.Theremediationwasdoneinstagesthatcreatedanaestheticthatcouldpushatwodimensionalrealmintoathreedimensionalreality.Thefirststagewastodigitizethecrossprocessednegatives,throughbasicPhotoshopprinciples.Thenextwastoseparateoutthecoloursfromthetonesandlimitthetonesdowntoacountablenumber,throughIllustratorwithitsgreathandlingofvectorgeometry. Thisfinalkeystagewastoseparatethetonesandthenrasteritthroughthelasercutter.Ithastobenotedthatthecreamertonesthatareclosertowhitewouldbethehardesttoraster.Theoutcomewasmoresuccessfulthananticipatedwhereanalmostabstractremediationoffilmwascreated. Thefinalproduct,asitwere,hascertainapplicationswhenitcomestolightingandcladdingfixtures.Productslikeglazedglassandtabletopscanusetheengravingtechniquetomasterlightthroughlayering.Ifdoneinacertainway,thelayeringcanbeusedtoestablishactualformsencompassedandconstructedthroughthelayering.Thistechniquecreatesahighlystunningaestheticthatcouldbeusedtocontrollightinginmanydifferentsituations.

  • Theseexplorationsthroughthemediumofphotographyhavecreatedauniqueoutpostforhowtointerprettheworldandquestionmyownunderstandingofit.IhavebeencontinuouslychallengedtoquestionandanswerwhatIbelievephotographyis.AsofnowIcanrecognisethatimagesholdandencapsulatemoments.Themomentsdonthavetobeperceivedaspositiveornegativeparadigmbutacknowledge forwhat it is,as Justmomentswewanttoremember.
