Guidance Department News

Highly Selective College Admission Panel: We are excited to be hosting college admission officers from Harvard, Brown University, Boston College and Penn State University to share advice on applying to highly selective colleges. The event will take place on April 11 from 5:30-6:30 PM in Bray Auditorium. This event is open to all families in all grades. Registration is required. Please see our flyer for additional infor-mation.

Seniors: Plans for Next Year: This is a busy time of year as seniors are hearing back from colleges and finalizing their post-secondary plans. We love to hear about acceptances and want to help with additional options if needed. There are a number of colleges that are still accepting applications at this time. We are here to help! BCC Palooza: Bristol Community College will be conducting their “BCC Palooza” on Tuesday, March 20 at AHS. This is an opportunity for our BCC-bound students to re-ceive admissions decisions, complete the FAFSA, and schedule placement testing. Students should see their Guidance Counselor ASAP to sign-up for this op-portunity, as space is very limited at this time.

Scholarships: With the college search in full swing, it is also the time of year that students should start looking at scholarships. Scholarships and financial aid should be a priority at this time. Scholarship application packets are available in all house offices and on the balcony. Our web site also has many additional scholarships to consider. New this year you will be able to complete the application form on-line.

Here is the link for the Attleboro Scholarship Form Students must be logged in to the browser with their

attleborops.net account to view the scholarship form!

The majority of the scholarships have an April 1 dead-line, but seniors need to be aware that some have an earlier deadline. Students should check each scholar-ship individually for requirements such as a letter of recommendation and a resume. Any member of the Guidance Department can answer questions on the pro-cess.

Guidance Department... AP Testing News

Testing Window This is just a reminder that AP testing window is May 7 through May 18. Please see Ms. Little or Mr. Parrillo with any questions. AP News for 2018-2019 The Guidance Department met with all students to review their course requests for the 2018-2019 academic year. Students who have the teacher recommendation to take AP classes should keep in mind that it is a year-long com-mitment, and there is a requirement to take the AP exam at the end of the course in May.

THE MONSTERS ARE DUE ON RATHBUN WILLARD DRIVE!

The AHS Drama Club will once again be hosting the preliminary level of the Massachusetts High School Drama Festival on Saturday, March 3, 2018. Over 100 schools participate in this statewide tri-level tournament of theatre. Each school produces a short play (no longer than 40 minutes) and is sent to one of the 14 prelimi-nary sites. This year, Attleboro welcomes BMC Durfee High School in Fall River, Diman Regional Vocational Tech High School in Fall River, Holliston High School, Millbury High School, Rockland High School, Taunton High School, and Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood. After all the plays, judges will present awards for student excellence in acting and technical design, and three schools will be selected to advance to the semi-finals the following week.

This year, AHS will present The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street--an episode of the classic television show The Twilight Zone--by Rod Serling. On a typical subur-ban American street on a summer evening, something--perhaps a meteor--flies overhead. All the electricity on the street goes off, and phones and cars stop working. While one man goes to the next block to see if they’re having a similar problem, a young boy tells the neigh-borhood about a comic book he’s been reading. The comic tells of an alien invasion with one team sent in advance to pose as humans. Tension and paranoia rise as some people’s cars and lights unexpectedly start and stop. They start distrusting and accusing each other, building to the type of twist ending you’d expect (and maybe even remember) from The Twilight Zone.

Our production features 18 student actors and student-

designed sets, costumes, make-up, lighting, and inci-dental music. The event begins at 9:00am, and Attlebor-o's show will be presented at 12:15pm. Tickets are $10

for the whole day, whether you want to support our show or stay for all eight!

TDA - Driver Education at Attleboro High School

Join the over 1000 families that chose Teachers Driving Academy as the driver education program for their child. Quality classroom instruction and the conven-ience of on-site classes make TDA the perfect choice! Students aged 15 years, nine months and older are eligi-ble to take driver education classes. In order to earn a driver’s education certificate, the state of Massachusetts requires students to take 30 hours of classroom instruc-tion, 12 hours of driving instruction, and six hours of driving observation; parents must also take a two hour parent class. Both the student and parent classroom in-struction will take place at the high school; the driving instruction will take place off site. See the schedule be-low for the remaining session dates. The cost of the classroom instruction is $80.00.
