MAKE IT THREE: The Dodgers tonight continue a six-game
homestand (1-0) with the second of three contests against the
Philadelphia Phillies, who had their six-game winning streak
snapped by Los Angeles last night. Following the weekend series
with the Phillies, the Giants come to Dodger Stadium for three
games Monday-Wednesday, May 1-3.
The Dodgers are 12-12 in the season’s opening month
with two games remaining. Los Angeles is looking to
avoid a losing record in April for the second consecutive
season as last year’s NL West champs were 12-13. Prior
to last season, the last Dodger squad to post a losing
March-April record was the 2010 team (9-14).
With last night’s victory, the Dodgers have won 10 of
their last 14 games against the Phillies since the start of
the 2015 campaign. Last year, Los Angeles took the
season series, 4-2 (2-1 at Dodger Stadium).
RETURN OF THE BMAC: Dodger right-hander Brandon
McCarthy puts his undefeated record on the line this evening in
his fifth start of 2017. McCarthy leads the Dodgers and ranks
eighth in the National League with a 2.25 ERA (6 ER/24.0 IP),
while also ranking among the NL leaders in wins (3, T-4th),
opponents’ batting average (.220, 8th), opponents’ OPS (.594, 7th)
and WHIP (1.08, T-11th).
McCarthy also leads the Major Leagues, throwing first-
pitch strikes 76.1% of the time.
AIN’T IT GRANDAL?: Dodger catcher Yasmani Grandal has
scorched the Phillies since his career began in 2012:
Active Players, Highest Career OPS vs. Phillies
(minimum 75 PA; current team listed)
Yasmani Grandal, LAD 1.117 (.420 OBP + .697 SLG) Ryan Braun, Mil 1.097

In 19 games, Grandal is hitting .318 (21-for-66) with
seven homers, 15 RBI, four doubles and 16 runs scored
in his career against Philadelphia.
STREAK WEEK: Dodger third baseman Justin Turner
extended his hitting streak to a career-high 14 games last night,
going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI. During the streak,
Turner is hitting .400 (22-for-55) with five runs, five doubles,
seven RBI and four hit by pitches, along with a .476 OBP and a
.491 SLG during the run, which started on April 13. Overall,
Turner leads the National League in doubles (10, 2nd MLB), while
ranking in the NL’s top 10 in batting average (.381, 3rd), hits (32,
3rd), on-base percentage (.447, 6th), multi-hit games (10, T-2nd)
and hit by pitches (5, T-2nd) in 22 games to start the season.
Turner’s 14-game hitting streak is the longest active and
overall streak in the Majors this season.
Turner’s 22 singles are tied with New York’s Starlin
Castro, Chicago’s Avisail Garcia and Miami’s Christian
Yelich for the most in the Majors.
THE INJURY FRONT: Dodger outfielder Franklin Gutierrez
is expected to play 5.0 innings in the field for Single-A Rancho
Cucamonga this evening as he works his way back from a left
hamstring strain suffered in Chicago on April 10. Dodger starter
Rich Hill, who is on the 10-day DL with a finger blister, is
scheduled to throw a three-inning simulated game this afternoon
at Dodger Stadium.
LONG TIME COMING: The Dodgers are preparing for a very
special Wednesday night to honor Hall of Fame broadcaster Vin
Scully as the legendary announcer will become just the 11th
inductee into the Dodgers’ Ring of Honor. Fans should arrive
early for a special pregame ceremony, and the first 40,000
ticketed fans in attendance will receive a Vin Scully
Commemorative Microphone Statue presented by Mercedes-
Benz Dealers of Southern California. In addition, the Dodgers
will offer a limited number of Reserve Level tickets for $22
available at Dodgers.com/promotions and at the box office.
THE GRADUATE: Dodger shortstop Corey Seager is showing
no signs of a sophomore slump, picking up two walks and scoring
two runs in four plate appearances last night. In 24 games this
season, Seager has posted a .310 (27-for-87)/.402/.552 slashline
with 16 runs (T-13th, NL), six doubles and 17 RBI (16th, NL). That
.402 on-base percentage ranks 10th in the National League. The
National League’s unanimous Rookie of the Year award winner
had a breakout season last year finishing 2016 ranked among the
NL leaders in hits (193, 2nd), runs (105, 5th), doubles (40, 7th),
multi-hit games (57, T-2nd), extra-base hits (71, 7th), batting
average (.308, 7th) and slugging percentage (.512, 10th). Seager
also earned an All-Star selection and a Silver Slugger Award,
while also finishing third in the NL MVP voting last season.
The North Carolina native has hit safely in eight of his
last 10 games, batting .353 (12-for-34) with a double,
three homers and seven RBI since April 18.
This evening, the first 40,000 ticketed fans in attendance
will receive a Corey Seager bobblehead, presented by
Spectrum. Seager will also receive his 2016 Player’s
Choice Award for the NL’s Most Outstanding Rookie in
a pregame presentation on the field.
Seager, who turned 23 on Thursday, leads the Dodgers
and ranks ninth in the NL with a .450 batting average with
runners in scoring position (9-for-20, HR). His teammate,
Justin Turner is tied for 10th with a .444 (8-for-18) mark.
PROVIDING THE RELIEF: The Dodger bullpen continues to
rank among the NL’s best in ERA (3.18, 2nd), opponents’ batting
average (.218, 3rd), WHIP (1.17, 3rd), opponents’ on-base
percentage (.284, 1st), opponents’ slugging percentage (.310, 2nd),
strikeouts (89, T-2nd) and fielding independent pitching (2.37, 1st).
The bullpen has also posted a 3.30 strikeout-to-walk ratio, which
leads the Senior Circuit, and allowed an average of just 0.35 home
runs per nine innings (3 HR/76.1 IP, 2nd, NL).
Dodger closer Kenley Jansen picked up his sixth save in
as many opportunities last night and his six rescues are
tied for third in the NL. Jansen’s 16 strikeouts in 9.1
innings pitched are tied for third among NL relievers.
GETTIN’ VIVA WITH IT: The Los Angeles Dodgers
tomorrow morning will hold their first Viva Los Dodgers,
presented by Spectrum of 2017, featuring Dodger reliever Sergio
Romo on stage. The festivities get started at 11:10 a.m. (auto gates
open at 10:40 a.m.) and fans will have the chance to welcome
Romo at the historic 76 station where he will help kick off the
eighth season of the program celebrating Mexico and Latino
culture. Romo’s appearance begins at approximately 11:25 and
will also be on Facebook Live (facebook.com/dodgers). Dodger
alumni Manny Mota and Juan Castro will also sign autographs
at Viva Los Dodgers following Romo’s appearance.
