My thanks go out to the fine folks at Hunter Industries in Cary, especially Craig Gardner, for giving us a great tour of a state of the art molding and assembly facility. We had close to forty people attend the tour and thirty of those folks attended the dinner meeting later that evening at Michaels in Apex. The menu of various Italian dishes, specially prepared for the P-C Section, was superb! Our topic of discussion was very timely and focused on networking and using state of the art electronic social networks like LinkedIn®, MySpace® and FaceBook® to help find employment. Of course there were many helpful hints on how to make your resume stand out in these difficult economic times when you are looking for work and having to compete with so many others. The hand-out was very helpful. On behalf of the Section, I’d like to extend a sincere “thank you” to our Secretary and Program Chairman, Jared Goble, for setting up the tour with the people at Hunter Industries, the dinner meeting at Michaels and, finally, for stepping in at the last minute to give us the presentation when the scheduled speaker could not make it. Our next meeting will be our planning session at Tyco Electronics’ Pegg Road plant. This meeting will be for our Board of Directors only. During this “working session” Board meeting, we discuss our entire schedule for the upcoming year of 2009/2010 and plan our technical meeting and plant tours and social events and outings by month. It is a very important meeting and all Board members are encouraged to come with ideas as to how we can make our upcoming year successful in both technical content and in attendance. Finally, our last opportunity to get together for this year will be the “Carolinas Cup Challenge” golf outing at NorthStone Country Club in Huntersville, NC just north of Charlotte on Monday, June 8th. This outing is being sponsored this year by the Carolinas Section. Kurt Hagemann is heading up this event and, if you plan on attending, I’d encourage you to check out the particulars on the Carolinas Section website http://www.specarolinas.org. Many of you will recognize the format as one similar to the format we use for our P-C Section golf outing held in October at The Preserve at Jordan Lake in the Chapel Hill area. However, this one has a different “4 man best ball” twist and will result in the winning team receiving the “Carolinas Cup” trophy. I’m not sure how that will work, but Kurt assures me that he and his people have it under control and that’s all that matters. By the way, NorthStone CC is noted for its wonderful food so make plans to attend and have a great time! Till next time ----- A few SPEcial words from our president - President, P-C Section SPE

Board of Directors Planning Meeting

atTyco Electronics’

Pegg Road Facility in Greensboro

Time: 4:30 pm

Well, what a great plant tour and dinner meeting we had on April 14th!

ECONOMIC DOWNTURN – IS IT AFFECTING YOU – NEW SPE PROGRAM:

Due to the recent down turn in the economy, SPE will be offering up to two years complimentary membership to members who lost their job and are between jobs. If you or you know a SPE member who has lost their job due to the economic downturn, please contact me for information on this SPE program.

Membership Renewal Program – Early Renewal Savings

In a phone conversation I had with Tobi Gebauer of SPE National – SPE is e-mailing out renewal notices – the earlier you sign up the bigger discounted annual renewal fee. Please note the e-mail comes from [email protected] (not .org). This is a valid SPE e-mail site for the membership renewal program. The initial early renewal (six months in advance) saves you $ 15. As you get closer to your renewal date, the savings will be reduced. The e-mail lists your User ID, your Password and an Acceptance Code.
