    Tree of Life

The root system represents our constitution andis affected bymental and emotional stress, nutritional deficiencies, physical trauma, toxic

overload. The trunk represents thebiological terrain and the

    branches represent our

In acute illness, the body is always

    congested with metabolic toxins.

    Colds and flu

    Fever

    Sore throats Ear aches

    Acute headaches

Metabolic wastes are byproducts of cellular activity

    environmental toxins

    Allergies

    Migraine Fatigue

    Kidney Diseases

    Learning disabilitiesADD/ADHD, senility

    Liver disease Obesity

    Skin disorders

    eczema, psoriasis,rashes

It is likely that all chronic illness involves toxicity

    Sources of Toxicity

    1. FoodNatural allergens, agricultural chemicals, additives / preservatives, processing methods (whitefoods), cooking methods (microwaves, high heat, pasturization)

    2. Indoor pollutionfabrics (carpets, upholstery, clothing), building materials (solvents, glue,

formaldehyde, paint), cleaning supplies, personal careproducts, yard care and insect control

These items gas off . Use house plants to help detoxify the air.

    3. Air pollution

    4. Waterindustrial contamination (run off),water treatment (chlorine, fluoride, bromides)

( use iodine to flush cells )

    5. Nuclear radiation 6. Electromagnetic pollution (computers,

microwave ovens, radar, substations, cell phones)

The umbilical cord blood of the average newborn harbours around

200 industrial chemicals and pollutants. ( Dr. Julian Whitaker )

    Detoxifying our body!

    Use the bodys chimneys

    The Primary eliminative channels

    - Gastrointestinal tract

    - Urinary tract

    The Secondary eliminative channels

    - skin ( sweat glands & oil ducts )- respiratory tract

Primary channels - Liver and Colon

The Liver filters toxins out of theblood coming from the digestivetract.

The Liver converts toxins intowater soluble substances. Thesmaller ones are sent through thekidney.

The Liver eliminates larger toxinsinto the digestive tract via the bile. The bile binds with a fiber to besent out.

    Primary channelsenzyme

    detoxification

As we break food down metabolic byproducts are

formed and microbial endotoxins are created as

    byproducts of bacteria.

Drugs and chemicals and lipid soluble toxins arestored in the liver.

Phase 1 Detoxification begins. There are 50 different enzymes which electrically

charge toxins by adding or eliminating electrons.

The charge can be positive or negative

    Phase 2 detoxification

This is a process where enzymes add chemicalgroups to toxins. This process is calledconjugation and makes the toxins water soluble

so they can be excreted by the kidneys.Molecules of high molecular weight are excretedthrough bile.

Conjugates are amino acids, sugars, glutathione, methionine, sulfur, and acetyl Co-A

Secondary eliminative channel Sweatrids the body of waste products

    2 types of sweat glands

    1. Apocrine glandsarmpits, pubic area, scalp

secrete sweat that contains fats and other organic compounds

( they combine with bacteria to produce odour)

    2. Eccrine glandsnumber over 2 million scattered all over thebody. Activated by heat, stress and emotions. They secrete a

watery sweat up to 2 liters a day.

Sweating mobilizes toxins stored in the fat. (alcohol and tobacco

are noticeable as they come out of pores)

In a sauna the Eccrine glands can pump out 2 liters of sweat in

    15 minutes.

Cleansing Approaches 1. Fastinguse for acute illness - toxins are eliminated

quickly because enzymes used to digest food can digesttoxins instead 2.Tissue irritationstimulants (capsicum), stimulant

laxatives ( buckthorn, cascara sagrada ) stimulantdiuretics (Juniper berries, Buchu ) Stimulants do notnourish and can deplete.

    3. Passive absorptionfiber absorbs toxins; poulticesor drawing baths (epsom salts); saunas, ion cleanses

    4. Nourishmenttonic herbs (red clover clears

blood), parsley, dandelion; Nutrients ( vitamins, minerals, amino acids, fatty acids); mild food (juice fastsand fruit)

    Cellulite

Numerous studies suggest that 90% of women will

develop cellulite at some point in their life.

It is not a disease of only the overweight.

Obesity causes an increase of both the size of fatcells and the number of fat cells

Cellulite involves structural changes in the middle

layers of the skin altering the appearance andtexture of skin but also impacting body function.

  • 7/28/2019 Personal Pollution

    21/27

Cellulite is associated with venous insufficiencypoorblood return from legs and feet back to the heart.

Patients complain of heaviness and cramps in the lowerlimbs and pain in areas of cellulite deposits.

It is strongly related to higher circulating levels of estrogenwhich encourages fat circulating in the blood to bedeposited into the fat cells below the skin.

The fat cells become enlarged and irregular in shape andcause added pressure to local blood vessels.

  • 7/28/2019 Personal Pollution

    22/27

This slows blood flow and forces fluids and proteinto leak out of blood vessels into the space betweenthe cells of the body.

    Limited circulation means decreased oxygenation.(Hypoxia)

Hypoxia combines with the leakage of protein andfluids and stimulates fibroblasts which are cellsthat are responsible for putting togethermacromolecules for the cell such as

    collagen and elastin. This causes

abnormal thickening to themiddle layers of skin that result

    in dimpling, padding and

    orange peel appearance.

  • 7/28/2019 Personal Pollution

    23/27

Once the fat is deposited into the fat cells belowthe skin under the influence of estrogen, that fat

is locked into place and leads to celluliteformation.

There are various types of cellulitewater

deposit and fatty deposit.Water deposit type is more spread out. Water

and some fat penetrates the tissues and saturates

them. Cells grow to 2 and 3 times their size.Estrogen allows more water and sodium intocells causing hypoxia.

  • 7/28/2019 Personal Pollution

    24/27

Fatty deposit is the orange peel cellulitecausing lack of blood flow and the skin layers

deteriorate. Fat cells bind together causing fluidretention and saturation of capillary veins.

In the final stage there are clumps of fatsurrounded by hard protein layers. We can feel

hard nodules by pinching the skin. This can bepainful especially when there is fluid retention inthe legs.
