PIIC is . . . PIIC is NOT . . .
Rethinking ‘Coach’
Full-time instructional coaches are ideal, but…
Look at coach as a verb, not a noun
Coaches may include: teacher leaders, librarian, curriculum coordinator, reading specialists, department chairs, etc.
Coaches can not include: teacher evaluators
Designated coaches must be provided with some level of release time
PIIC coaches provide a professional development support system for teachers focused on improving classroom practices, student engagement, and student achievement by applying a specific set of practices. The PIIC coaching model reflects consensus about what constitutes effective teacher professional development: ongoing, job-embedded, side-by-side assistance to teachers based on the needs of those teachers and their students.
Expectations for PIIC Coaches Attend PIIC state conference if selected Attend monthly coaches meetings at the IU Provide and facilitate onsite PD for teachers
