Peer Teaching Session on Seasons and the Weather 1 st Primary School of Skiathos Date: February 17 th , 2015 Instructors: Vassiliki Panagioteli, Makrina Chrisopoulou Classes that participated: third graders, second graders (Γ2, B1) Equipment: flashcards, CD player, a video camera, worksheets Objectives: familiarization with vocabulary related to the 4 seasons and the weather through interactive activities, learning through fun and promotion of bonding between the two groups Integration of skills: listening, speaking Time required: 30’ Steps: 1. Presentation: Teachers present the 4 seasons through flashcards and try to elicit the relevant words. Word-cards are put on the board along with the relevant flashcards. Following this, Ts go on to present weather related vocabulary by flashing cards showing basic weather phenomena representative of each season, asking learners to repeat. They make sure all learners understand “How’s the weather? It’s ...” question-answer pattern. (15’)

Peer Teaching Session on Seasons and the Weather

Steps:

1. Presentation: Teachers present the 4 seasons through flashcards and try to elicit the

relevant words. Word-cards are put on the board along with the relevant flashcards.

Following this, Ts go on to present weather related vocabulary by flashing cards showing

basic weather phenomena representative of each season, asking learners to repeat. They

make sure all learners understand “How’s the weather? It’s ...” question-answer pattern.

2. Practice:

Game: Flashcards and word-cards are randomly distributed among pupils. Teachers call out a

season and weather-relevant flashcards and word-cards have to gather around the pupil-season,

calling out the word/phrase, thus forming 4 groups which will be the stage for the next activity.

3. Follow up:

a. Students consolidate vocabulary and have fun by singing along a Weather Song. Pupils in

groups of 4 seasons listen to various weather phenomena and sing, dance and perform as

instructed. (5’)

b. Time permitting, teachers hand out worksheets depicting weather in black and white, which pupils colour in class or at home. (5’)
