What’s inside:
We Study Hard, We Play Harder:
PE Summer Camp 2014 July and August are usually the busiest
months of the year for Paradise English and
this year tops the list in the history of PE. This year’s summer camp was the toughest
yet one of the most rewarding camps the
school has ever had.
The mix of students coming from
countries such as Switzerland, South Korea, Taiwan, China, Japan, Hong Kong, Saudi
Arabia, Russia, and the Philippines was so
diverse and it was such a joy to see these little strangers become friends and interact with
each other using English!
At PE, students practice and learn to
communicate effectively in their social and
academic lives. The camp curriculum is de-
signed in such a way that students maximize
learning English both inside and outside the
classroom, which is most important for kids
as studying English can be as much fun as
playing games!

The children had a great time after classes participating in two hours of off cam-pus activities such as riding a Segway along the beach, flying across the Fairways
and Blue Water golf course on a zip line or cable car, touring the Mangrove For-
est, visiting a sea aquarium to see exotic fish and beautiful mermaids, and playing Canada’s national sport – hockey. Below are some of what the happy campers
wrote about the PE Summer Camp 2014.
“I will study. I love camp.” – Siu, age 7, S. Korea
“I think it was good because I meet many friends. I studied English. It was very
good. I went beach and swam. My best activity was Zorb, Zipline, and beach swimming.” – Sally, age 10, S. Korea
“My summer camp is in Boracay, in Paradise English School. I live in Teachers’ House. When I go there, first I make my bed, put my clothes on the table and
make all the things. After next day, I go to school. Our lunch time is twelve
o’clock. At three to five is activity time. We have Zipline, beach games, swimming, wave pool, Zorb, zoo…. In our school, we have a lot of classrooms. We have two
offices. Our teachers are kind and good. Students love them.” – Charis, age 11,
Hong Kong
“My summer camp is fun.” – Allan, age 10, Philippines
“The summer camp is give people chance to play and study. It’s give people happy and smile place.” – Peter, age 12, Taiwan

the Zipline in Fairways, going to the banana boat and going to the Dreamland.” – Mitsuki, age 11, Japan

can learn a lot of English and we can learn about other countries’ culture. This
camp is very good for children.” – Eunice, age 12, S. Korea

Hi everyone, my name is Carolyn, I am 22 years old and from Lucerne, Swit-
zerland. As I write I have been here at
Paradise English for 3 weeks and I have 3 more weeks left. I really enjoy my time
here at the school because the teachers
and staff are so friendly and always will-ing to help you have the best time here on
this lovely island Boracay.
Boracay is a very good place to study English because everyone speaks
English here as it is known as a tourist is-
land. If you come here you will meet a lot of people from all over the world and I
was lucky enough to meet some local peo-
ple who do martial arts at the Legacy Gym Boracay so I have been able to prac-
tice my Kung-Fu here.
I have been studying Kung-Fu now
for more than six months and I really like
it. Kung-Fu is a martial art originally from China. There is a Shaolin Temple
near my home in Lucerne and I practice
there. I like that the Shaolin Temple in Lucerne practices Kung-Fu in a very tra-
ditional way. We have to speak Chinese
in the temple and we also have lessons about the historical background of Kung-
Fu.
For me to do sports is a very good
diversion from my studies. I am studying
law and I will take my final exams for the Master in Law Degree next year. It is a
very strenuous and demanding program,
so when I do my Kung-Fu I can forget about everything and relax.
If you would like to try a martial
art without having to fight against others, Kung-Fu is a very good choice. After
only two months, you will already have
better control of your body and it will take shape in a good way. So, don’t hesi-
tate to try it! You’ll like it!

WHAT’S IN A NAME?
Wagga Wagga. Pago Pago. Bella Bella.
MANOC MANOC?? Early on in my stay here in Boracay I came upon a
group of young boys and in conversation I learned that they lived in Chicken Chicken. Having a slight aware-
ness of the local language I quickly deduced they were
joking and meant Manoc Manoc. It was funny but it got me thinking-why that
name? How did the little barangay where
Paradise English is located get its name?
Well, anyone who has walked
around Manoc Manoc will soon realize the name makes perfect sense, but one may
wonder why the name isn’t Manoc Manoc
Manoc Manoc ad infinitum.
Chickens… enjoy your walkabout.
