name of project: residential complex the Shangri-La

type of building: residential complex

type of project: individual, student

location: Jakuba St. // Cracow

year of concept realization: 2009

project made under the direction of:dr inż. arch. A. Franta

The residential complex, The Shangri-La, was designed on a plot of Kazimierz in Cracow. There were six urban design keys, they were adopted as the main lines, defining the important objects in Kazimierz. Guidelines adopted the function of sidewalks, and the spaces between them, was recognized as a new form of greenery and landscaping.

The architectural idea of the complex was to fit into the atmosphere of Kazimierz. The east elevation, on the left side, was originally intended to adjoin to the pub Opium, but after many changes, the pub was also processed for the purposes of design.

On the right side elevation was adjacent to the building designed by another student, between them the new passage has been designed, combining Kupa St. and Jakub St. together. From the western side the filling complex was adjoin to high residential building. The idea of the complex was to focus on the problem with the high of the residenial housing on Kupa St., so the best solution was to neutralize its height by division the complex in facades. Thus, we have received a variety height of the proposed residential complex the Shangri-La. This way of thinking, created the cohere form of the project.

The subject of the study was to design the Wellness Centre and Spa in Cracow. The selected site is in an excellent geographical location. The analysis showed that from the upper floors of the building, we will be able to see the Monastery oo. Paulinów, the Church of St. Katarzyna, the Church of Bożego Ciała in Kazimierz, which are an important view axes.

The architectural form of the building is a combination of two cubes. However, considering that the building itself couldn’t be very high, the total height has been reduced.

To give the building brighter feel, I included, numerous glazing and two large skylights above the swimming pool, inside the main hall and above the staircase. Since the building is situated on the large site, it has been connected to the garden, which is only available for users of the Spa and Wellness Centre.

In the garden, two outdoor pools have been designed and surrounded by greenery. My suggestion for this area, is to stimulate this part of the city, it will become the new meeting place and recreation location for people from all over Cracow and visitors.

project made under the direction of:mgr inż. arch. E. Woźniak Szpakiewiczprof. Ado Franchini

The international workshop in Canzo, in the province of Como, was intended to create an environmental project, redevelopment the district of Valsassina.

My group worked on the project of the square ‘’Piazza Grande’’ where the main element is the historical church. Currently on the square there is parking and the historical loggia.

The aim of the workshop was to design an underground parking garage and a redesigned square. The new square would be responsible for inhabitants of Canzo in the city center, as well as visitors to make them stop there for a while.

The main determinant was the introduction of green, open gardens, combined with the square, which crosses the water line, referring to the historical connection of water. On the edge of the square stairs were introduced, where you can relax at various times during the day, and enjoy the movies overnight, displayed on the western façade of the church. We proposed the introduction of new elements: the tower, sculptures by local artist Salvatore Fiume, mobile kiosks and new features in the loggia - a café.

project made under the direction of:dr inż. arch. Z. Wikłacz

During the class from the Conservation of monuments, I proposed to adapt the Baroque church on the Art gallery. It is a three-aisled basilica with a narteks, a choirs and a semicircular presbytery.

Due to the fact that the church itself is a monument of historical significance. I introduced a new steel structure with three levels of narrow walkways. Thanks to that at close quarters we can observe the architectural detail of the church. The exhibition is located mostly, on the ground floor and on the balconies gallery. All areas associated with operating the gallery, were transferred to the basement level: cloakrooms, toilets, spaces accessible only to employees (magazines of exhibits), thus the entire area of the church, will serve as exhibition space. I added the lift to the steel structure (from the entrance site), which will take us to the all levels of the Art Gallery, so that the building is fully accessible to the disabled.

This project represents an unique place, which, thanks to its rich history and connection with the modernist interior, could become one of the most important and stimulating spaces of popularizing the culture and art in Ukraine.

This project unlike all the others, it was primarily a research one. The timeline to work on it was one month, including three weeks to familiarize ourselves with the issues and the last week was intended for the work on the project. The task was to design a year-round facility to observe a chosen phenomenon. The first phase, was based on a selected topic of observation. My attention has focused concentration of butterflies in that area. The second phase was to determine the species of butterflies which exist in the reserve, and then choose one, which further research will focus on. My choice was the Monarch butterfly, the most common there. The third phase involved a determination of in which period of time he stays there. After reading more general information about the subject, I found that: the adult form eats pollen from milkweed flowers, lays eggs, then a caterpillar eats the leaves. In the next phase a caterpillar, evolves from a chrysalis into the next stage. All of this helped me determine, which type of land I should choose for the observatory, so a place where a milkweed plant is located. As a result, I designed two forms of the building facade. The first - wooden structure through which the butterflies can fly and the second - glass.

The concept of revitalization of public spaces along the creek Ravella entails not only improvements of spaces along the creek, but also ideas for the whole town. I suggested several new features which will improve the city attractiveness: the railway station, as the start of walking - cycling paths, recreational areas with the lake and the beach, a new residential housing and boarding houses, bleachers at the sports fields, pavilions services, observation tower, enlargement of sports and school complex, playgrounds, cultural center, conference and exhibition centre and many other components. Listed above are just most important. All activities and components of revitalization - designed buildings are complemented by compositional greenery.

The project was made during a few months, so each part was carefully thought out and subjected under multiple revisions. I think that the final form of the project, improved tourism & environmental infrastructure. Number of new spaces and places of public activities have been opened. Also introduced new features and architectural forms. All this could encourage tourists to visit Canzo.
