NOTABLE ACTIVITIES

The College organized its 2nd International Research Conference in association with

the HEF (Higher Education Forum), on December 7, 2019, on the theme, ‘Building

New India Through Innovation in Education’. At the Inaugural session, the welcome

address was delivered by Mr. Adil Patuck, Chairman, Patuck Polytechnic Trust; Dr. A.

K. Sengupta, Founder and Convener, HEF, set the Convention Theme in the light f the

National Education Policy, 2019; Mr. Yadzi Tantra, Director, On-Lyne Comtech India

Pvt. Ltd., delivered the Corporate Keynote Address; Dr. Abul Azam, President & Dean,

School of Business and Economics, United International University, Bangladesh,

provided the international perspective of the conference; and Dr. Rajesh Khajuria,

Director, CKSV Institute of Management and Chairperson, HEF, Gujarat Chapter, was

invited to be the Guest of Honour.

The Conference had three technical sessions, each of which had moderators and

keynote speakers. The technical sessions were as below:

- I : Innovation in Policy and Structure Including Internationalization of Higher

Education

- II : Innovations in Teaching Learning Processes Including Technological

Innovations

- III : Corporate Connect with Education to Improve Employability

The NSS Unit of the College undertook the Juhu Beach Cleaning Drive. The Unit

designed the drive for inclusivity of the entire Degree College. The class teacher in-

charge along with the class students on a Sunday morning visited the beach early

morning and cleared the litter from it. The schedule of the same is as below:

An MoU was signed in end of November 2019, with a Research Team (Erin Kelley,

Gregory Lane and Gaurav Chiplunkar). The Research Team in Development and

Labour Economics from the World Bank, American University and the University of

Virginia, desired to undertake a research which focuses on job-search and firm

dynamics. Through the research activity, the researchers also trained the Third Year

students on Employability Skills. The training was to be hands-on and hence was

conducted batch-wise in the Computer Lab. The process of registration for the same

began on December 16, 2019. And the ensuing training sessions were taken through

till the mid of February 2020.

On December 24, 2019, Dr. Dadarao Mhaske, received the ‘World Parliament

International Award. He was presented the award by, Dr. Glen T. Martin, President,

World Constitution Parliament Association, Colorado, USA.

Our Alumnus, Deepika Devlal, who graduated from our College in the Academic Year

2007 – 08, from the BMS program, was selected and awarded the Young Entrepreneur

Award, by HEF (Higher Education Forum). She was felicitated by HEF on January

11, 2020, at the 1st HEF Entrepreneur Day function.

On February 8, 2020, the Postal Department, Government of India, released a Postal

Stamp with the Name and Photograph of Dr. Dadarao Mhaske. The releasing ceremony

was organized by the WCPA Chapter, Shrirampur District Nagar. The stamp was

presented to him by Dr. Babasaheb Mangsule, Guinness Book of World Record holder.

Accountancy

On December 6, 2019, the Department organized a Guidance Lecture on the

Professional Courses available to Commerce Graduates. This can help students

decide their plan of action after their Graduation. The resource person invited

was Ms. Pooja Bisaria, CA, Faculty Member, ICAI, WIRC.

Alumni Association

The College registered its Alumni Association and named it as, Mitra Niketan.

On December 10, 2019, the Association organized an Alumni Talent Pool,

wherein, Alumnus, Shadab Shaikh, who has taken over the operations of the

Printing Press from his father, delivered a lecture to the students about the

essential skills that they necessarily need to build in them while studying in

College so as to be ready for the Corporate world.

On January 27, 2020, the Association organized a Guest Lecture on, ‘Ideas &

Entrepreneurial Mindset’ by Alumnus, Tanoj Rai, Financial Consultant. There

were 65 students across all programs who attended the lecture.

Banking & Insurance

The Department conducted BBI Day on December 5, 2019, where, co-

curricular games like Scatter-gories, Hangman, were organized for the students.

The activity was thoroughly enjoyed by the students and they participated in

large numbers.

On February 7, 2020, the students of B. Com. (Banking & Insurance) were

taken for a One Day Industrial Visit to the LIC Main Office, in Navi Mumbai.

The subject teacher of Rural Marketing, Monisha D’costa, took students of the

S. Y. BMS class to the Rural Products Exhibition, called Mahalaxmi Saras, at

Bandra - Kurla Complex, on January 24, 2020.

Students of the Department were taken for a One Week Industrial Visit, during

February 21 – 28, 2020, to the city of Bangalore, from where they also visited

Mysore and Ooty. They visited the production facility of Mother Dairy and the

Tea Factory of Ooty.

In February 2020, a Case Study Writing & Solution Competition was conducted

by the Department for the students. More than 20 students participated in the

same.

On February 28, 2020, the Department conducted a Powerpoint Presentation

Competition for the BMS students as they need to have good presentation skills

coupled with good presentation techniques.

Business Economics

In January 2020, the Department conducted its annual Arthlekhan - an inter-

collegiate Essay Writing Competition, this year for the Teachers. The topics

were: a) Corporate Tax Cuts to Improve India’s Competitiveness b) GST : Its

Impact Since 2017 c) PSU Disinvestment : Strategically Appropriate ? and d)

Growth of Telecom Industry in India and its Impact on the Indian Economy.

More than 20 entries were received and the winners of the competition were

felicitated with cash prize and certificates on the College Annual Prize

Distribution Day on March 3, 2020 :

The Department organized a Quiz Competition on February 6, 2020, in which

37 students participated.

The Department on December 18, 2019, conducted an Essay writing

Research in Marketing and c) Paperless Payments V/S Payments in Cash –

What Is Your Pick? Around 10 entries were received for it.

The Department conducted on February 27, 2020, an Ad Making Competition.

Advertisements were prepared by the students on various products. This helps

them understand the intricacies to emphasize on, while marketing a product.

Computers

The Department assisted to install on campus a ‘Kiosk (WeP Cloud Printing

Solution). The facility was installed and inaugurated on January 24, 2020. The

machine is kept opposite the computer lab for easy maintenance and control.

This kiosk will help students take prints from anywhere. Prints can be taken

and payment for the same can be done through Paytm.

The Department conducted an orientation for the Cloud printing process in the

computer lab on February 1, 2020, for Teachers.

A Guest Lecture on “Networking and Firewall Security” and was held on

December 21, 2019, delivered by Mr. Durgesh Vishwakarma, Technical

Manager, Jetking, Mumbai. The lecture covered various aspects of helping

students to understand Networking and Firewall Security. There were 61

students participants from various programs.

The Department conducted a Selfie Contest for the students. It was held on

February 1, 2020. Students were asked to submit their Selfie to the College

Computer Lab. There were 8 students who participated in the contest.

A Workshop on “Front Accounting” was held on February 8, 2020. The

workshop was conducted by Mr. Pratik Kamble and Mr. Arvind Pillai of IIT

Mumbai. The workshop covered various aspects of helping students to

understand the Accounting Software which is very much in demand among

Small and Medium enterprises in India. 23 students across all programs

attended it.

Counseling Cell

The Counsellor conducted a session on “Effective Communication” for the

Support Staff on December 14, 2019.

On December 14, 2019, the Cell conducted a session on, ‘Understanding Your

Mind’, for the Non-teaching staff members. The resource person was Ms.

Paulomi Pandit, Counsellor.

The Counsellor, conducted session on “Effective Communication” for the

Security Staff on December 28, 2019.

Ms. Paulomi Pandit, Counsellor of our College, conducted a counseling session

for parents on “Effective Parenting”, in the College Auditorium on December

29, 2019.

Sessions on Self Development were undertaken for the B. Com students. These

sessions helped students introspect, understand their strengths and weaknesses

and how they can form good habits and strengthen their neuro-pathways to

work in a more productive manners.

On January 29, 2020, Monisha D’costa, Member, Counselling Cell, delivered a

special lecture on, ‘Youth Mental Health Justice’. The participants were

explained their legal rights with regards to mental health.

Cultural Committee

The team of Folk Dance performers bagged the First position at the inter-

collegiate cultural event, Kshitij, of Mithibai College of Commerce, held on

December 9, 2019.

At the inter-collegiate cultural event, DAAS, of N. G. College of Commerce,

held on December 12, 2019, our students won the following : a) Second

position in Singing competition b) Second position in Best-out-of-Waste and

c) Third position in Solo Acting.

At varied inter-collegiate cultural events conducted on December 21, 2019, our

College students won the following : a) Second prize in the Dance competition

at Gurukul College b) First prize in Best-out-of- Waste at the Raheja College

of Commerce c) First prize in Group Dance and Third prize in Quiz at NG

College of Commerce.

At the Sheel Utsav of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar College of Arts, Science &

Commerce, Chembur, held on January 7, 2020, our students, Abhishek Rawat,

F. Y. BMS, won the First Prize and Rohan Bhalekar, F. Y. B. Com. (B&I),

won the Third prize in the Solo Singing competition.

On January 11, 2020, the Committee organized and conducted the Annual Day

function of the College, with fun and frolic performances. It included

performances that have won the College accolades at inter-collegiate cultural

events.

On January 19, 2020, at an inter-collegiate cultural event, of Rizvi College of

Commerce – Jashn, our student, Abhishek Rawat, F. Y. BMS, secured the

Second Prize in the Solo Singing Competition (Hindi songs category) and the

Consolation prize in the Solo Singing Competition (Marathi songs category).

At an inter-collegiate cultural event, Zest of Alkesh Dinesh Modi Institute of

Financial Studies, on January 23, 2020, our student Abhishek Rawat, F. Y.

BMS, won the First Prize in the Solo Singing competition.

At an inter-collegiate cultural event, Zest of Alkesh Dinesh Modi Institute of

Financial Studies, on January 25, 2020, our college team of Folk Dance won

the First Prize.

Abhishek Rawat, F. Y. BMS, won the Third position at Pankh, the inter-

collegiate cultural event of Ladhidevi Ramdhar Maheshwari Night College of

Commerce, held on January 25, 2020.

Abhishek Rawat, F. Y. BMS, won the First Prize in the Solo Singing

competition at the Skylark event, an inter-collegiate cultural and sports event of

the Nava Samaj Mandal Degree College, held on February 5, 2020.

On February 28, 2020, our students were invited to perform at the welcome

ceremony of the Marathi Bhasha Gaurav Diwas, where, Mr. Uday Samant, Hon.

Minister of Higher Education, Government of Maharashtra, was the Chief

Guest. The ceremony was held at the Convocation Hall, University of Mumbai,

Fort.

On January 5, 2020, Krupa Shah, DLLE Teacher, conducted a Workshop on

Calligraphy, where she demonstrated short-cuts to write stylishly and also gave

the students a home assignment to complete and submit in the next 2-3 days.

This was done with the objective of improving their writing and presentation

which is long lost since the advent of the use of computers and other digital

equipments for communication.

DLLE students participated in the Street-play competition and the Poster

Making competition of the DLLE University department, UDAAN Fest, which

was conducted on February 25, 2020, at B. L. Amlani College of Commerce.

There were 10 participants for the street-play and one participant for poster

making. The street-play was based on the theme of pressure on the youth to

make a career choice.

Environmental Studies

On December 20, 2019, the Department arranged for the F. Y. B. Com. students

to visit the Solar Panels which are on the terrace of the College building. They

were explained its working with the parts actually shown to them how it works

and were explained about its benefits on saving and conserving energy and

electricity.

37 students of F. Y. B. Com., were taken for a Nature Trip to the Maharashtra

Nature Park Society, Sion, Mumbai, on February 22, 2020. The external

resource person to explain students about the elements in the park was, Prof.

Sarita Achrekar. In the days of mankind over-exploiting nature it becomes

imperative to emphasize it on the youth, the need to conserve our ecology and

environment.

Foundation Course

The Department conducted the Gandhi Vichar Exam on February 27, 2020,

among the F. Y. B. Com. students. It is essential to keep the students rooted in

traditions and values. It is important that they learn the principles upheld by

our great national leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and the like.

Ranjeet Rao was deputed for the Syllabus Revision Workshop for T. Y. B. Com.

and T. Y. BMS, in the subject of Goods and Services Tax (GST), jointly

organized by Department of Accountancy, H. R. College of Commerce &

Economics and the Board of Studies in Accountancy, University of Mumbai,

on December 14, 2019.

The Cell conducted a hands-on demonstration in the Computer Lab on January

15, 2019, to help teachers register for SWAYAM online courses. They were

shown how to browse through the various options of courses available to study

online and then they were also assisted with the process of registration for the

course.

On January 18, 2020, the Cell conducted an orientation session on what are

SWAYAM online courses and how importantly they are to be undertaken for

teacher development. The resource person invited for the same was, Mr.

Mandar Bhanushe, IDOL, Department of Mathematics, University of Mumbai.

An MoU for a Student Exchange Program was signed between our College and

Gurukul College of Commerce, Mumbai in January 2020. The program

On December 4, 2019, the Library Committee organized the Bookmark Making

and the Rare Collection Competitions. This was to understand the importance

of and utility of a bookmark and to understand the value of preserving rare

items.

On December 19, 2019, on the lines of the Inter – Loan Library MoU signed

with the Public Degree Night College (PNDC), Mumbai, we conducted at our

College, an inter-collegiate Book Review Competition for students. There were

a total of 21 participants – 16 from our College and 5 students from PNDC. All

the participants had good choice of books, fiction and non-fictional. The judges

for the competition were: Ms. Krupa Shah, Full time Faculty, PGCCM, and

Mrs. Suchita Gurav, Teacher, Patuck English Medium School.

The Department conducted a Library Visit on January 17 -18, 2020, to the Dr.

Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathawada University. 54 students were a part of the

tour. The students after learning the functioning and facilities at the

Marathawada University Knowledge Resource Centre were taken on a city tour

to Soneri Mahal, Aurangabad Fort, Bibi-ka-Maqbara, Daulatabad Fort, Paithani

Silk Handloom workshop and the famous Ellora caves.

In accordance with the MoU signed with PNDC, each College was to conduct

an activity on their respective campus. Hence on February 11, 2020, PNDC

conducted a Quiz Competition, in which our students participated and each

were presented Certificate of Participation.

Mathematics & Statistics

On January 16, 2020, the Department organized a Chart Making competition

on Mathematics topics. The posters were kept as an exhibition in the

Conference room on the day. More than 15 entries were received for the same.

On February 5, 2020, the Department organized a Maths Fun Fair, with games

like, Unlock Me, Counting Backward, Tower of Hanoi, Arrange Me, Make 3D

Objects and Skip Me. For this the Department received more than 90 entries.

Students from the Junior College, Science Section, also participated in it.

NSS

The NSS Rural Residential Camp of the College was organized at Zilla Parishad

School, Navajhe, Saphale. The camp was held from December 16 - 22, 2019.

A total of 81 volunteers attended the camp including 02 Program Officers and

Core Committee Members. Activities done during the camp were : cleaning of

temple premises; teaching aids project (making charts as instructed by the

Headmaster; teaching the students; village well cleaning; helping at the building

site of the new School building; village cleaning; conducting surveys; tree

plantation; anti – plastic rally and on December 20, 2019, a medical camp was

conducted for the village residents.

On December 30, 2019, student volunteers, attended and completed the

Disaster Management Training session (pilot project) at the BMC Office,

Mumbai. This training is essential as it helps students spread the message of

being ready for any unforeseen contingencies and the same things learnt can be

imparted to other students in the college. A batch of 48 NSS volunteers

attended the training at the City institute of Disaster Management in Parel. They

were also trained on How to Evacuate the area of disaster and the use of a Fire

Extinguisher. Continuity training sessions were also conducted on February 12

& 13, 2020.

Three NSS volunteers from our College attended the NDRF training which was

related to Disaster Management, on January 6-7, 2020, at Niranjan Mathija

College.

On January 14, 2020, Officers from Vakola Police Station, addressed our

students in the College Auditorium on Road Safety Measures. This is necessary

for the youth to understand facts and measures when they are on the road, either

as vehicle drivers or pedestrians. In order to propagate the same message to the

others in the College vicinity the NSS volunteers conducted a rally for the same

on January 15, 2020, in which 50 volunteers participated,

An AIDS Awareness Poster Competition was organized on January 23, 2020.

It was open for all students. A total of 16 posters were received from NSS and

non – NSS students.

The NSS Unit of our College undertook the activity of creating Warli paintings

on the side walls of the College building. A total of 14 volunteers participated

in it. This was done through January 28, 2020, till February 1, 2020.

Blood Donation Camp was held in our College Auditorium from 9 am to 2 pm

in collaboration with Tata Memorial Hospital on February 14, 2020. 15

students were volunteering in the programme. The Unit collected 53 bottles of

blood. There was also on the day Thalassemia check-up done for students and

134 students underwent the check. Reports were provided to them 2-3 days

later, for further action.

The Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony of the College NSS Unit was

organized on February 8, 2020. NSS volunteers who have completed their

stipulated 240 hours and those volunteers who had displayed exemplary societal

contributions and responsibility, were felicitated on the day. Mr. Rajendra

Lokhande, Disaster Management Cell, BMC, was invited as the Chief Guest.

The Cell on December 21, 2019, conducted a Quiz Competition on the Student

Bulletin Board content that is uploaded on the College website for students to

read and improve upon their general knowledge. Over 20 students participated

in it and winners were awarded Certificate and Trophy.

The Cell deputed Megha Nair, for a Workshop – ‘Joy of Research’, organized

by Nirmala Memorial Foundation’s Nirmala College of Commerce, on

February 22, 2020.

Mubashira Shaikh, T. Y. B. Com, was deputed by the Cell to represent our

College at the Research Paper Presentation Competition, organized by Marwadi

Sammelan’s B. M. Ruia Girls’ College, Grant Road, on February 26, 2020. She

secured the Second Position in the competition. Her paper was on ‘Women and

Social Media’.

Skill Development Committee

The Committee conducted an activity for the students by organizing games of

the kind which help increase their judgment and thinking abilities. The activity

was conducted on February 4, 2020. The games were: Leader You Love,

Confetti Run and Survive The Sinking Ship.

Sports Committee

The Committee conducted an intra-collegiate sports event for outdoor games

for the girl students on December 3, 2019. Games like Volleyball, Kabaddi and

Kho-kho were played.

The Committee was a part of the organizers to conduct an intra-institution

sports event on December 9, 2019. This event was for all the employees across

all sections, teaching as well as non-teaching staff members. Indoor games like

carrom, chess and table tennis; and athletic events were conducted.

The College football team won the First position in Rink Football at an inter-

collegiate sports event conducted by Somaiya College on December 9, 2019.

The Annual Sports Meet for the students of the College was conducted on

December 24, 2019. Dr. Madhuri Sadgir, Assistant Professor, Physical

Education, Department of Physical Education, University of Mumbai, was

invited as the Chief Guest for the event. Athletic Events like, 50 mtr. Running

Race, 100 mtr. Running Race; 4 x 100 mtr. Running Race, long jump, short put

and tug-of-war were conducted. Students participated in good numbers.

On January 4, 2020, at an inter-collegiate event organized by the University of

Mumbai, at G. J. College, Ratnagiri, our student Jitendra Verma, T. Y. B. Com.,

secured the Fifth position in the Powerlifting competition out of a total of 150

participants

On January 24, 2020, at an inter-collegiate event organized by YPL, Mumbai,

the College Football team won the First position in the competition.

The Committee on February 2, 2020, organized a match of Box Cricket, for the

students of the College, in association with the Alumni Association of the

College. 12 alumni and 42 regular students participated in the event.

The Committee conducted its Annual Prize Distribution on February 20, 2020.

Here the winners of all the intra-collegiate sports competitions, indoor as well

as outdoor, conducted for the students through the year, were awarded

Certificate and Medal / Trophy. Dr. Shivaji Mahajan, Medical Practitioner, was

invited as the Chief Guest for the event/

Students Council

IDF conducted a training session of the Students Leadership Program, for the

Students’ Council of our College on December 5, 2019. There were 32

participants for the same. The program is designed in Two phases. The first

phase consists of a Mentorship Training Program for the student volunteers and

in the second phase, these student volunteers in turn go to the lesser privileged

Schools in the vicinity of the college and impart the same training to the student

leaders at these Schools.

The phase two of training in vicinity Schools were conducted as below:

- Aarti Jaiswar and Sanjana Gupta of S. Y. B. Com., trained 31 students

of the std. VIII at the BMC School, Santacruz (East), from, January 26

– February 15, 2020

- Gudiya Sahani and Harshada Desai of S. Y. B. Com., trained 26 students

of the std. VII at the BMC School, Santacruz (East), from, January 26 –

February 15, 2020

- Alfiya Shaikh and Nicole Veigas of S. Y. B. Com. (B&I), trained 42

students of the std. IX / div. A, at the BMC School, Santacruz (East),

from, January 25 – February 25, 2020

- Roshani Sharma of S. Y. B. Com. (B&I) and Adil Shaikh of F. Y. B.

Com. (B&I), trained 30 students of the std. IX / div. B, at the BMC

School, Santacruz (East), from, January 25 – February 25, 2020

These training sessions at the Schools were conducted on weekends.

On December 9, 2019, the Council organized the Junior College Day (II Term).

Competitions like, Dance (Solo & Group), Tattoo Making, Poster Making,

Expression of Thoughts were held. And in Sports – Throw Ball and Volley

Ball, matches were organized. This is to orient the students of our Junior

College about the Degree College and to make their progression into the Degree

College easier.

Women Development Cell

The Cell organized ‘Womenia’ Fest on February 15, 2020, in the college, for

girls students. Competitions as: Dish Decoration, Mehendi, Rangoli, Singing,

Make-up, Hair Styling, Memory Game, One Minute Game and Best-out-of-

Waste were organized. Winners were felicitated with Certificate and Medals.

Principal conducted a meeting with the faculty members on the below

The organization, namely, Technoserve, which provides soft skills and

employability training to the Third Year students, conducted a meeting with the

parents of the students who registered for the training program on January 25,

2020, in the Conference room. The parents were oriented about the module of

training and the process of students who will be sent for selection process

through job fairs.

A PTA Meet was conducted on February 9, 2020.

CELEBRATIONS & FELICITATIONS

The College celebrated its Annual Day with fun filled performances on January

11, 2020, in the College Auditorium. The Chief Guest to the function was Mrs.

Malathy Mohanraj, (Retired) Junior College Head, Science Section.

Students who have successfully graduated from the College were felicitated at

the Convocation Ceremony held on January 25, 2020. Program Toppers and

individual subject toppers of the semester V & VI were awarded Certificates

and Cash prizes at the ceremony.

On January 26, 2020, the teaching, non-teaching and the support staff attended

the Republic Day celebrations on campus, which was conducted with students

and staff performances after the hoisting of the National Flag by our Chairman.
