SPACECOOL® is passive radiative sky cooling material that was developed by Osaka Gas. This high-performance, high-durability, flexible film blocks heat from the sun and atmosphere and reduces heat absorption. Further, heat is dispelled through radiation to outer space, enabling continuous cooling without consuming any energy.

Mechanism: Passive Radiative Sky Cooling
This film reflects sunlight and radiates heat to outer space through a transparency window in the atmosphere between 8 and 13 micrometers.
A new challenge: Energy input coming from the sun < Radiant heat

• Average values from 9:00 to 17:00 for 8/27 through 9/8. (Data of rainy days excluded.)
• Conditions:• 10.25-m2 temporary housing/office units• 24-hour air-conditioning set to 25℃ (strong) (Hitachi
Shirokuma-kun air conditioner)• Measured electricity consumption with an electricity
meter attached to the panelboard.
We installed radiative sky cooling material on temporary housing/office units at a construction site and compared electricity consumption of those with and without the material. With the material, electricity consumption between 9:00 and 18:00 went down approximately 20%.
