    PART A

    Q. 1. Read the following passage carefully: (1x10=10 marks)

The choices we make on a daily basis—wearing a seatbelt, lifting heavy objects correctly orpurposely staying out of any dangerous situation—can either ensure our safety or bring aboutpotentially harmful circumstances. You and I need to make a decision that we are going to getour lives in order.

Exercising self-control, self-discipline and establishing boundaries and borders in our lives aresome of the most important things we can do. A life without discipline is one that’s filled withcarelessness.

We can think its kind of exciting to live life on the edge. We like the image of “Yeah! That’s me!Living on the edge! Woo-hoo!” It’s become a popular way to look at life. But if you see, evenhighways have lines, which provide margins for our safety while we’re driving. If we go overone side, we’ll go into the ditch. If we cross over the line in the middle, we could get killed. Andwe like those lines because they help to keep us safe. Sometimes we don’t even realize howlines help to keep us safe.

I’m not proud of this, but for the first 20 years of my life at work, I ignored my limits. I felthorrible, physically, most of the time. I used to tell myself “I know I have limits and that I’vereached them, but I’m going to ignore them and see if or how long I can get by with it.” I ran todoctors, trying to make myself feel better through pills, vitamins, natural stuff and anything Icould get my hands on. Some of the doctors would tell me, “It’s just stress.” That just made memad. I thought stress meant you don’t like what you do or can’t handle life, and I love what Ido. But I kept pushing myself, travelling, doing speaking engagements and so on— simplyexhausting myself

The UN’s 2017 International Year tells that sustainable tourism is an important tool fordevelopment, most importantly in poor communities and countries. Today sustainability –environmental, social, and economic – is increasingly recognised as the benchmark for all tourism business. As noted by the UN World Tourism Organisation, 57% of international tourist arrivals will be in emerging economies by 2030. The various ‘Tourism Terms’ are defined as follows:

Category DefinitionEcotourism Responsible travel to natural areas, the environment, socially and

economically, sustains the well-being of the local people, and creates knowledge and understanding through interpretation and education of all involved (including staff travellers and community residents)

Ethical Tourism Tourism in a destination where ethical issues are the key drivers, e. g. social injustice, human rights, animal welfare or the environment.

Geotourism Tourism that sustains or the geographical character of a place - its environment, heritage and well-being of its residents.

    Pro-Poor Tourism

Tourism that results in increased net benefit for the poor people in destination.

    Responsible Tourism

Tourism that maximizes the benefits to local communities, minimizes negative social or environmental impacts, and helps local people conserve fragile culture and habitats or species.

    Sustainable Tourism

Tourism that leads to the management of all resources in such a way that economic, social, and aesthetic needs can be fulfilled while maintaining cultural integrity, essential ecological process, biological diversity, and life support system.

Based on data collected by a survey by Travel Bureau, the following market profile of an ecotourist was constructed: –

Age: 35 – 54 years old, although age varied with activity and other factors such as cost.

Gender: 50% female and 50% male, although clear differences based on activity were found.

Education: 82% were college graduates, a shift in interest in ecotourism from those who have high levels of education to those with less education was also found, indicating an expansion into mainstream markets.

Household composition: No major differences were found between general tourists and experienced ecotourists. (experienced ecotourists = Tourists that had been on at least one “ecotourism” oriented trip.)

Party composition: A majority (60%) of experienced ecotourism respondents stated they prefer to travel as a couple, with only 15% stating they preferred to travel with their families, and 13% preferring to travel alone.

  • 23. Read the source given below and answer the questions that follows:Following the defeat of Napoleon in 1815, European governments were driven by a spirit of conservatism. Conservatives believed that established, traditional institutions of state and society– like the monarchy, the Church, social hierarchies, property and the family –should be preserved. Most conservatives, however, didnot propose a return to the society of pre-revolutionary days. Rather, they realised, from the changes initiated by Napoleon, that modernisation could in fact strengthen traditional institutions like the monarchy. It could make state power more effective and stronger. A modern army, an efficient bureaucracy, a dynamic economy, the abolition of feudalism and serfdom could strengthen the autocratic monarchies of Europe. In 1815, representatives of the European powers who had collectively defeated Napoleon, met at Vienna to draw up a settlement for Europe. The Congress was hosted by the Austrian Chancellor Duke Metternich. The delegates drew up the Treaty of Vienna of 1815 with the object of undoing most of the changes that had come about in Europe during the Napoleonic wars. The Bourbon dynasty, which had been deposed during the French Revolution, was restored to power, and France lost the territories it had annexed under Napoleon. A series of states were set up on the boundaries of France to prevent French expansion infuture.1815म नेपोिलयन की हार के बाद,यूरोपीय सरकार िढ़वाद की भावना से े रत थी।
