PARK TIMBERS HOMEOWNER'S ASSOCIATION Gracious Southern Living in a Covenant Protected Community PT-HOA Quarterly Review 2nd Quarter of 2016 Reporting April, May, June 2016 and preview of more President's Report - Donna Mercer Look around the neighborhood, and you will see project after project, beautifying and adding value to our neighborhood. My last letter dealt with how neighbors’ activities (or lack thereof) affect us negatively, but let’s not forget that the reverse is true, too. We’ve seen many landscape projects, painting, driveway repairs, and the like, all making the drive through the neighborhood much more impressive. Thanks to all those folks investing in our neighborhood (and complying with our architectural control process. My realtor contacts tell me this correlates to the positive increase we are experiencing in our home pricing, as well. Another positive: our Swim and Tennis Club had a banner year last year…and we’ve already surpassed all numbers this year! We laid out a handsome sum refinishing the pool, the kind of outlay that makes you gulp and hold your breath. So now, we can sigh with relief; the investment has paid off. Our clubhouse has never looked so good, and I’m so very proud that our neighborhood provides a wholesome, healthy, and refreshing alternative for spending the dog days of summer, not only for our own kids and families, but also for our neighbors in surrounding communities. We have around fifty kids on the swim team this year! It’s not too late for you to join the fun, and the hottest days are still ahead. Membership information can be found on page 2, in this newsletter. A growing population of feral cats has been reported around the deep end of Grand Canyon Drive. We ask those who are feeding these cats to please help us with a humane solution. Adult feral cats are not particularly adoptable, but “neuter and release” programs exist. The cats can resume life as they knew it, but without contributing to the problem. For maximum impact, females should be targeted first. Kittens, if captured and brought to the SPCA, have a much greater chance of being domesticated and adopted. The SPCA or PAWS should be helpful with information on trapping and neutering. And lastly, last month a couple of trash cans were stolen.......... Architectural Control Committee (ACC) - Chair, ScottSaremba; Associate Yvette PonthierA reminder about the Architectural Control Committee's resonsibilities: itis the fiduciary obligation of the ACC to interpret, and enforce theArchitectural covenants/bylaws/guidelines to preserve theharmony of the "Park Timbers Look".Park Timbers residents need ACC approval to make most changes tothe exterior of their homes and garages. We need all residents tocontact the ACC about making changes to the exterior of your home, garage, driveway, yard.

Some projects can be quickly approved or may need no approvalsuch as changing/repairing screen, replacing dead shrubbery, addingnew flowers to an existing bed, etc.. it is best to check with the ACC tomake sure. Violations will be cited and if not fixed, a legal suit willfollow. This will not only take up Park Timbers Homeowners time andmoney but yours. So please get ACC approval before you proceed withyour project.. I thank all of you who have gotten approval to make ParkTimbers one of the best looking subdivisions in New Orleans and agreat place to live in! Respectfully, Scott Saremba

Membership - Chair, Treva Ragland; Associate Diane Williams2016 MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORIES are out…..finally!!! After much talkabout getting them to you, they are finally in your mailbox. This is the firstyear with the new format, so PLEASE check your listing for errors and/orcorrections you want made so we can get it corrected. Quite a lot of effortwent into condensing the booklets and we may have overlooked something(hope not, but it happens).

Since we’re talking about getting those new directories to you, while helpingto deliver them, I was surprised at the condition of some of themailboxes in our neighborhood…..rickety, too short, too tall, doors heldclosed with rubber bands….I could go on and on with more examples, butI’m sure you get the idea. I only went from house to house once and I cannow empathize with our postal carrier. Everyone complains about the postoffice service, but look at the equipment they have to work with. If you hadrun down, second rate equipment to do your job, would you be as efficient asyou are now? Let’s step-up here and provide mailboxes that aren’t soshabby. Not only would it protect your mail, but it would definitely be a betterlook for the subdivision. Our mailman would love you too!!!Hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable summer. Enjoy your vacation!!!Contact: Treva Ragland at 392-9772 or [email protected]

Safety & Security - Chair, Mort KellyWith the arrival of summer, school is out. That means that many juveniles are out roaming the streets looking foradventure (trouble). Parental responsibility includes supervision and ensuring that their children adhere to the curfew, which is 9 PM Monday thru Thursday, 11 PM on Fridays and Saturdays during the summer months when school is out.I received four Security Committee Incident Reports regarding car burglaries during the week of June 12. Two ofthese incidents happened on Saturday, June 11. The streets that were hit were Yosemite and Grand Canyon, twoincidents each. One homeowner caught two male juveniles by her car parked in front of her garage in her driveway underflood lights. Hubby gave chase, but they got away. However, the juveniles returned to finish the job of auto burglary onJune 13. This time the police were called and the police passed the four juvenile perpetrators on Kings Canyon headingtowards Yellowstone. The cops pursued the perpetrators but they were gone. Some of the vehicles were on the streetand some were in driveways and under lights.Yes, Park Timbers is still the safest place to live in Algiers. This is the first time in a long time that the subdivisionwas hit this hard with any crime. The chance that the police will recover the stolen property is zero.

Lock your vehicles at all times. Remove anything of value from the interior of the vehicle. If you have trouble, call 911 to report and give the operator your address. Then contact me to report the incident:(504)394-9909 or [email protected] or file your incident report via http://www.parktimbers.com/park-timbers-security--apac.html

respectful of your neighbors.

Park Timbers Garden Club - President, DianeHingleOn May 11 we concluded our garden club meetings before oursummer hiatus. We had a wonderful luncheon at Commander'sPalace. Our new officers for our 2016- 2017 year wereinstalled. The club will be taking a hiatus starting in June and wewill return on September 14th with our welcome lunch.

Have a great summer and we hope to see some new membersin September. Please consider joining us for a meeting, we are alwayslooking for new members. We meet on 2nd Wednesdays at10 am. Sept-May for light lunch & a program.

About The Wall...No doubt you’ve seen the gaping hole in the subdivision's brickwall adjacent to General de Gaulle Blvd.About 10:40 pm, Thursday, June 23, 2016 there was ashooting incident on the street adjacent to our brick wall. This damage was done during a retaliatory continuation of afeud between rival neighborhood alliances and has nothing todo with Park Timbers or our residents. It seems our wall gotin the way of their drive-by.

We are awaiting identification and insurance information fromthe police reports so that we may file the repair claim with theowner of the car’s insurance (and praying the auto wasinsured!). In the event there is no coverage and the owner hasno means, the HOA will be on the hook for the repair. We’llkeep you updated. --Donna Mercer, PTHOA President
