NO OTHER MASSES THIS DAY The Blessed Sacrament will be reposed at Midnight. Adorers are encouraged to keep their hours even though the Eucharist is not present, as we anticipate Jesus’ Resurrection. ABSTAINING & FASTING For those over the age of 14: Good Friday is a day of abstinence from meat and also a day of fasting for those ages 18-59. When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal, as well as two smaller meals that together are not equal to a full meal.

La pasión y la compasión Por: Padre Jairo E. Congote

Hoy la Iglesia lee el evangelio de la entrada de Jesús a Jerusalén así como el evangelio de la pasión según san Lucas. Se puede medi-tar y predicar después de cada uno de ellos. Hay una gran riqueza de temas, especialmente en la narración de la pasión, que se pueden recalcar: el ángel que conforta a Jesús al sudar sangre en su agonía, nos recuerda que para san Lucas la pasión es la culminación de las tentaciones de Jesús (En san Mateo, después de la tentación, los ángeles sirvieron a Jesús; en san Juan, una voz como de un ángel consuela a Jesús en su turbación después de la entrada a Jerusalén; al final de las tentaciones, san Lucas dice que el demonio dejó a Jesús “hasta otro tiempo”. Hasta la pasión). Hay elementos característicos en la pasión de san Lucas que sub-rayan profundamente la compasión y el perdón de Jesús que abraza hasta sus enemigos: Jesús llora sobre la ciudad de Jerusalén, al pen-sar en el castigo que caerá sobre ella; sana la oreja del siervo del sacerdote cortada por san Pedro en Getsemaní; consuela a las muje-res de Jerusalén que se compadecen y lloran sobre él; pide al Padre que perdone a los que le acaban de crucificar; ofrece el perdón al buen ladrón. Jesús enseña con su ejemplo todo lo que había enseña-do de palabra a sus discípulos durante su vida pública. Jesús es el mártir perfecto, lleno de serenidad ante el sufrimiento. San Esteban, más adelante y los demás cristianos, podrían ser como Jesús y orarán por sus enemigos. Nosotros ahora, como en el caso de Jesús, es pre-cisamente en nuestra capacidad para fijarnos en el dolor de los de-más y en nuestro esfuerzo por ayudarlos y consolarlos, donde encon-traremos fuerzas para llevar nuestra propia cruz y para vencer nues-tro dolor. Hoy conviene meditar también sobre la triple pasión de Jesús: física (sufrimiento corporal), moral (condenado por las autoridades religiosas como blasfemo y pecador), y psicológica o espiritual (sintiéndose abandonado por sus amigos y hasta por el Padre). Hay muchos pobres que hoy sufren una pasión parecida: sufren física y corporalmente, son insultados como perezosos y subversivos y son abandonados por aquellos que tienen una obligación especial de ayudarles. También hay gente que, como lo hicieron muchos habi-tantes de Jerusalén, el domingo aclaman a Jesús y seis días después piden su cabeza y lo crucifican con sus pecados. Hay quienes honran y aclaman al Señor en la misa dominical y al día siguiente, en los negocios… Muchos cristianos sienten admiración ante los modos de obrar de Dios al leer referencias a la pasión de Jesús anticipada en los salmos y en las profecías. Los planes de Dios desbordan todo modo de pen-sar humano. El sufrimiento que Dios permite es un misterio. En la primera lectura se presentan los sufrimientos del Siervo del Señor, tipo de Jesús en su pasión, según san Lucas. El Siervo consuela a los abatidos; escucha al Señor y abraza su voluntad sin resistencia. El Siervo puede ser figura de Israel que sufrió en la cautividad de Babi-lonia sin perder su confianza en Dios; es modelo para las personas que sufren y se mantienen fieles; todo sufrimiento puede ser pasaje-ro, porque no hay mal que mucho dure ni bien que puede ser pasaje-ro, porque no hay mal que dure ni bien que no se acabe. El sufri-miento de los pobres a lo largo de la historia sigue siendo un miste-rio. Los cristianos creemos que cuando unimos nuestros sufrimien-tos a los de Jesús, estos adquieren una dimensión divina y salvado-ra.

HOLY WEEK PERPETUAL EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

The Blessed Sacrament will be reposed at Midnight on Holy Thursday. Adorers are encouraged to keep their hours through Good Friday & Holy Saturday even though the Eucharist is not present, as we anticipate Jesus’ Resurrection. The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed again after the 8:00pm Holy Saturday Mass.

April 23rd- May 21st, 2019, Grieving with Great Hope: Griev-ing with Great Hope is a journey for those who are mourning the loss of a loved one. We recognize there are no stages to grief. Grief is as unique as your fingerprint. This journey, firmly grounded in our Catholic Faith is a 5-week workshop/support group for those who have lost a spouse, child, parent, sibling, grandchild or friend. This workshop will be held April 23, 30, May 7, 14, and 21st 2019 6:30 to 8:30 PM in the Parish Center Dining Room at St. Cecilia Cathedral 701 N. 40th street, Omaha, Ne.
