My Dear People,

The Gospel today reminds us that there is an urgency to living the Paschal Mystery. We don’t have forever to make up our minds to respond to God’s offer of salvation. Each day, we must take up our own cross, die to self, and live for the sake of others. This is how we enter through the narrow gate and how we get to know Jesus intimately enough. We must live and act like Jesus. This weekend, we have heard at Mass about a discipleship opportunity in the ministry of catechesis. Perhaps you can give some prayerful consideration to serving in this role of passing along your faith to our children and youth. A couple of weeks ago, I met with the newly formed Adult Faith Development Team (AFDT) whose task is to write a plan for Adult Faith Development in the parish. They will be using the report of the Adult Evangelization Team (AET) in their planning. You may recall surveys that were done by the AET in order to answer two fundamental questions concerning adult formation: What are people hungry for and how do we feed them? I will keep you posted about the work of the AFDT as we move forward to provide opportunities to grow in our faith as adults. Work continues with our South Campus project. As you may recall, it was our plan to move the tabernacle that is presently in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel to the St. John Fisher Chapel. This is the tabernacle that was in the original St. Thomas More Church on Gimghoul Road. Upon investigation, we determined that it will not be possible to move this tabernacle without risking damage to it. As a result, we will be leaving it in place, but we will move forward with the plan to install an “adoration tabernacle” as well in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel. This tabernacle will have wooden doors that an adorer could open in order to expose the monstrance, which will be behind glass. We will be purchasing a new tabernacle for the St. John Fisher Chapel. I am seeking a donor who would like to memorialize the tabernacle in honor of a loved one or friend. The bell for the chapel is also available for memorialization. If you are interested in either of these opportunities, please contact me at [email protected] or 919-942-6234.

In His Love,

Queridos Todos,

LITURGY AND PRAYER | LITURGIA Y ORACIÓN

First Reading – Isaiah 66:18-21 | God, our heavenly Father, sent out His messengers throughout the world so that all mayknow His glory, and come to worship Him on His holy mountain, Jerusalem. Do we accept His invitation?

Psalm 117:1-2 | In gratitude, we, as Christian stewards, praise and glorify the Lord for His enduring kindness and fidelity to us.

Second Reading – Hebrews 12:5-7, 11-13 | In this second reading, St. Paul encourages faithful stewards to endure trials that may cause great pain and suffering, because this “discipline” produces the “fruit of peace and justice.”

Gospel – Luke 12:49-53 | Our heavenly Father desires that all be saved through His Son, Jesus Christ. The Church teaches that we all have free will to choose between good and evil. Are we, onour journey as disciples, making good choices?

Stewardship Thought | Today’s reading from Isaiah describes the Israelites bringing their offering to the Lord “in clean vessels.” The gift of myself — my patient endurance and fidelity to the will ofGod — is as important as the monetary gift I offer.

The Inter-Faith Council needs your help to meet daily needs, especially in the summer! Food and childcare bills skyrocket for families when school is out for the summer (no National School Lunch Program), while IFC resources are at their lowest. Visit www.ifcweb.org/contribute. The Inter-Faith Council is seeking adult volunteers who can commit to a 3-hour weekly shift in the Food Pantry, Community Kitchen, or Community House. Visit www.ifcweb.org/volunteer for more information or call Monica Severino, IFC Volunteer Coordinator, at 919-929-6380 x30.

Help A Neighbor Get To Church! A Catholic family received political asylum here after a 12-yr stay in Burundi, and they are looking for transportation to Mass for mom, baby, and two children. They live off Homestead Rd. If you are able to help, contact Mary Ellen McGuire at 919-942-6230.

The American Red Cross is looking for volunteers. Help is needed to transport blood from the production lab on University Drive, Durham to area hospitals (car and gas provided). Flexible shifts at various times of the day. We are also looking for volunteers to assist at blood drives as a blood donor ambassador. Contact Jennifer VanGundy at 984-960-7562 or [email protected].

things, including Habitat for Humanity. We are part of a 6-church partnership called “Building Hope.” Over the course of 30 years, we have

built over 30 homes. Our parish funds materials for the homes we build, and our volunteers

supply the labor! Thanks to our ministry members, and thank you for your generosity.

THIS YEAR'S YOUTH MINISTRY THEME: FIAT

Fiat is not simply a “yes” to God, it is a submission to the great things God wants to do in our lives. It is not laying something down, but it is picking

something up. It is creative. It allows God to speak something new into our world. It allows us to bring

Christ to others. It brings us on an adventure.

But we need to speak it.

Every day we make a “fiat” to God is a day where anything can happen.
