THIS YEAR’S RECIPIENT OF THE ST. AGNES AWARD: MARY PRICE We extend good wishes and congratulations to Mary Price, our parish recipient of the St. Agnes Award this year. Bishop Barres will confer the award on Mary this Sunday, Oct. 28, at a service at St. Agnes Cathedral. Bishop William Murphy established this award several years ago to recognize the unique contributions made by certain individuals, who help to build up local parishes through generous and faithful service. Mary is an active member of St. James Parish and as been over many years. Her contributions span three pastors. One of her earliest contributions was in response to a call from Fr. Dan Picciano for assistance in establishing a regular newsletter, The St. James Community Herald. Mary became a regular contributor writing brief biographies, which highlighted the service of parishioners to St. James Parish. Mary is a regular lector at Sunday Mass. She also assists each Sunday in the operation of our parish religious article store, The Book Nook. Her concern for the poor and others in special need is evidenced in her loving and caring service to them through our Parish Outreach Ministry, sometimes going well beyond what our parish can provide to a person or family in special need. Mary is truly a worthy candidate to receive the St. Agnes Award as evidenced in the service she has provided to our parish over these many years. Thank you, Mary! St. James is a better parish because of the service that you have provided to us. God bless you!

Retreat comes from the Latin verb “to pull back.” So, retreat, or a retreat, is a place where you pull back from the world. Here are 10 reasons we think retreats are important. They help you… Pull Back Become Spacious Get Inspired Listen Detox from Life Lose the Fear Remember Who You Are Find Your People Help Others Establish a Routine/Practice

Advent Retreat Nov. 15, 29 and Dec. 13 7pm. Join us in the Adult Formation Room (112) as we watch and discuss Presence the Mystery of the Eucharist. Can’t join us in person follow along at home using Formed. Rsvp to :[email protected]

Retreat Half of our Confirmation 2 students attended their retreat this past week. We welcomed back Mr. Tony Bellizzi director of Hope for the Children Founda-tion to conduct the retreat. (Please take a look at the wonderful work he does at: http://hopeforthechildren.org/ ). Why do they attend a retreat? It gives the teens a chance to spend a bit more time than the regular class time allows, to go a bit deeper into why they are choosing Confirmation. We hope the retreat gives them the opportunity to ask questions and look differently at their faith. This time that we offer tends to be free of distractions and we hope gives them some insight on their relationship with God. When was the last time you disconnected for 3 hours? And spent that time looking inward and evaluating your relationship with God? We could all use some time and space to center ourselves. We know that we have to feed our bodies, and that we should be exercising (yep on my to do list) and family time, all the things that make up our lives. Our Spiritual side is just as important, so carve some you time into your week and talk to God he’s always listening.

Question of the Week When do I have time for me and God?
