Operations management in recent past....The Indian Railways turnaround
Was declared to be heading towards bankruptcy in 2001.
In 2007 it became the second largest profit making PSU after ONGC.
The fund balance crossed 12,000 crores in 2005-06. It reached a low of 149 crores during 1999-2000.
What made this happen?
Major change in operating philosophy.
Resource leveraging.
Dynamism led to opportunities which were unexplored due to rigid nature of operations.
