Call to Order Success By 6 meeting called to order by Vice Chair, Juan Cortes at 9am. Beatriz took roll and quorum was present.

Chair Report • Introduction of New Leadership Council Member Jennifer Ransone.

• The SB6 Employer Kit was introduced to the board members and members Roseann asked if anyone was interested in being a part.

• Juan read the Success Story of one of the grandparents who’s been attending Parents as Teachers.

• Jolynne Knoll gave a Read Aloud 15 Presentation to the board. She shared that 474 reading logs were collected through Sousa Palooza Event,

• Cara mentioned that His Compassion is in need of children’s books. Cara also mentioned that we need to take every opportunity to share what ELC is doing.

• Tom Dewey mentioned that it would be a great opportunity for Jolynne to take a board member when she goes out to replenish the BOBS.

• Juan suggested periodically going to the partners and also doing postcards. Jolynne explained that the cards didn’t come back to ELC.

• Lauren suggested doing THANK YOU Notes to the BOB Partners as it would be a great way to drive the relationship between the SB6 Board and the partners.

• Faith Beard mentioned that the Girl Scout Troops could be a great source with replenishing books to the BOBS.

• Roseann shared with the board that ELC has already started receiving gently used books from College of Central Florida and the Library System.

• Jolynne talked about the book drive and Dr. Heidi along with the School System will coordinate a drop-off location for gently used books.

MEETING MINUTES: The minutes from May’s meeting were included in the packet ACTION ITEM: Consent- Lauren DeIorio moved and Cara Meeks seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously.

DISCUSSION ITEMS: 2017-2018 Strategic Plan FINAL 2018-2019 Strategic Plan 2018-2019 Amended Agreement

• Roseann & Chrissy discussed the final strategic plan for 2017-2018.

• Chrissy & Jolynne discussed the 2018-2019 Strategic Plan with the board.

• Chrissy Discussed the expansion of Parents as Teachers Classes to Hands of Mercy Everywhere and the Marion County Jail.

• Kelly Rogers mentioned that she would like to be involved with the PAT classes at Hands of Mercy when they start.

• Lauren suggested that for the SB6 Plan to make sure the goal numbers are added for measurement purposes.

• Chrissy will make sure to have an updated strategic plan for 2018-2019 with goal numbers included.

• Roseann discussed the amended agreement and asked the board if they had any questions.

2017-2018 Budget FINAL

• Roseann gave an update to the board letting them know that the budget was spent to actual.

• Tom Dewey had a few questions regarding the budget being spent to actual and Roseann was able to explain how the budget was spent to actual and referred him to talk with the CFO, DeAnna Johnson for further clarity.

INFORMATION ITEMS:

• Jolynne and Chrissy gave updates on all the projects the SB6 & Read Aloud are currently working on.

ELCMC Updates

• None at this time.

UWMC Updates • United Way is funding 7 new agencies (along w. returns): Brother’s Keepers Soup Kitchen, NAMI Telehealth, FL. Center for the Blind (vision screenings in schools), Episcopal Early Learning, FREEDOM Clinic (Dental Hygiene in Schools), Habitat for Humanity (Mortgage) and Outreach Autism Services Network.

• UW is recruiting volunteers for Reading Pals

Public Comment • Dr. Heidi mentioned that the Kindergarten Readiness Rate is very low and we have to work to fix the issue. FKLRS was briefly mentioned as well has possibly having John McGowan from Marion County Public Schools present at one of the upcoming SB6 LC meetings.

Adjournment • Juan Cortes adjourned the meeting. The meeting adjourned at 10:15am; Cara Meeks gave the motion and Carol Ely Seconded the motion.

READ ALOUD 15 MINUTES BOOK DRIVE & DISTRIBUTION UPDATE

• Partnership between MCPS and Read Aloud 15 minutes-Conduct a book drive and Christmas shop to distribute gently used children’s books for free! Flyers are to come.

• Dates for ELCMC book collection Sat. Nov.10th & 17th 10am-1pm & MCPS date (Dr. Heidi will provide a weekday)

• Location - @ MTI (1614 SE Fort King Street, Ocala, 34471) In the Homeless council module.

• ELCMC/Read Aloud 15 minutes will collect children books for the entire month of Nov. Then transfer to module.

• Community Relations is currently working on the event flyer

• MCPS & Read Aloud 15 minutes presents- A Christmas book store on Dec. 15th 2018 from 10am-1pm (location above)

The Parents as Teachers Commercial created by the Cox Communications Production Team,

8/26/2018-9/10/2018 across all of their cable networks, various times each day. Public

Relations/Government Affairs Manager at Cox Media agreed to air the commercial at no cost as

a PSA. Parents as Teachers Workshops started back 8/30/2018 so having the commercial aired

on TV will help to reach a wider audience.

You are cordially invited to participate in the Fall in Love with Reading Literacy Celebration!

The theme of the event is “Storybook Village” to encourage the love of reading! The “village” will be divided into four different whimsical districts focused on storybooks.

Space is limited to a total of forty vendors and four food/treat trucks and is reserved on a first come, first serve basis. We encourage lively and creative booths based on the district your table is located in. Vendors will compete for “Top Booth” and “Best Children’s Activity”. PRIZES WILL BE AWARDED! ☺

• VENDOR TIMES: Set up as early as 8:30am – All Vendors must be set up by 9:30am Breakdown can begin no earlier than 1:00pm

**Vendors will be able to drive up to the (UC Building) to drop off and pick up

materials at the beginning and end of event. *** INSIDE EVENT!

• LOCATION: College of Central Florida (UC) building.

• THEME: Fall in Love with Reading, Storybook Village

• COST: FREE! There is no cost for vendor tables at this event and all activities are

required to be offered at no cost to the families attending the event. Food/Treat

trucks may sell food/beverage items.

• ADDITIONAL NOTES: Vendors are responsible for bringing their booth décor, children’s activity or give-away and agency materials. One 3’ X 8’ Table and two folding chairs will be provided for each vendor booth. Vendors may come to the ELC Office and utilize the Provider Workroom to create whimsical and unique booth décor for this event. Provider Workroom is open Monday – Thursday from 8:00am until 4:00pm, and on Fridays, 7am-3:30pm.

A huge thank you to Target. With their gift card donation to Success By 6/ELCMC we were able to purchase 298 diapers to assist homeless and low-income

families in our community with such an important need for their children. Target also gave us a little note thanking us for all that we do for the community.
