talk by Dr. T. Asher Hess, ofPhiladelphia, drummer boy o f th eCivil War , a nd t he national scoutceremony of ini ti ,a tion, featuredthe meet ing.The first part of the evening

scout s, p roved h ighly entertain-ing. 'A special escort of three

scouts, i n cha rge of John \Vilson,assistant scoutmaster, met Dr.

Hess on h is a rr ival at the station.He was r ec ei ved ami d enthusiastic cheers by the boys. Follow

same drum whi ch he h ad c ar ri edin the Civil vVar. This was accompanied by a talk on obedience.Start ing with the t ightening of

the drumhead and adjusting the: 'snares, Dr. Hess proceeded to

,.show the scouts the various beats'.used in mar ti al drumming, endi ng t he exhibition with "the longroll." His talk on obedience wasvividly pictured with personal experiences during the war andsince,That the boys enjoyed what Dr.
