  • December 23, 2018 • Fourth Sunday Of Advent/Christmas Eve/Christmas Day 3

A Note From Your Pastor... A Special Welcome to any visitors, newcomers, or those who have dri$ed away from regularly prac"cing the Faith. Welcome to Our Lady of Humility! This bulle"n is for the Fourth Sunday of Advent. There’s not much "me le$ to prepare for Christmas; Christmas Eve celebra"ons begin this Monday a$ernoon! So we must recommit ourselves to prayer and

"me for reflec"on in this short "me before we begin our Christmas celebra"ons. On Christmas Day, families and friends come together. In some cases, we may not have seen our loved ones for a very long "me — so much to catch up on. Ge*ng together o$en means sharing a solemn meal. There’s fellowship, and, of course, the excitement of children (and adults!) in the giving of gi$s. There’s something so special about Christmas. But above all, our celebra"on should be about the birth of a Baby, Jesus. During this sacred "me of Christmas, the Baby Jesus, with non-threatening, li#le arms, reaches out to us. He’s come to do what we cannot do: to save us from our sins. Only Jesus saves. My hope is that in this coming year we will all resolve to walk more closely with Jesus through daily prayer and regular Sunday Mass a#endance. On that note, please receive a gi$ from our Parish when leaving our Church at our Christmas celebra"ons. We will be passing out one copy per household of Edward Sri’s recent book, “Into His Likeness: Be Transformed as a Disciple of Christ”. Being an authen"c follower of the Lord Jesus, requires a personal rela"onship with Him. Without such a rela"onship, one is in danger of falling away from his or her faith. Edward Sri’s short book is very readable, and filled with many prac"cal ideas to help facilitate a personal rela"onship with Jesus. My hope is that all of us will renew our faith and our rela"onship with Jesus this Christmas, and through the coming New Year.

For your convenience, I’ve included our Schedule of Christmas Masses:

    Christmas Eve, Monday, December 24, 2018 4:30PM Vigil Mass (4:00PM Children’s Pageant – Carols – Folk Group)

    6:30PM Vigil Mass (6:15PM – Carols – Junior Choir) Midnight Mass and Proclama"on (11:30PM – Carols – Joyful Hearts)

Christmas Day, Tuesday, December 25, 2018 9:00AM Christmas Mass (8:45AM – Carols – Folk Group)

11:00AM Christmas Mass (10:45AM – Carols – Chorus of Faith)

I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. May the joy of the Birth of the Baby Jesus fill your hearts with great joy this day and throughout the New Year!

    God Bless,

    Fr. Paul

Christmas Angel Tree During the Advent season, our Christmas Angel Tree will be located in the southwest corner of the Church. The Tree will be decorated with angels and envelopes with the name of Helping Hands of Our Lady or

Our Lady of Humility Food Pantry. Our goal is to help the needy and the hungry with monies collected from the Christmas Angel Tree. This is the last weekend to par"cipate in the Christmas Angel Tree. Please help us help more people this year. Take the Angel along with your dona"on, and place it in an envelope, which can be put in the Sunday Collec"on Basket. Thank you and may God Bless you for your support and generous concern for both ministries.

Liturgy Of The Word For Children Prayer Leaders Needed

Those of you who a#end the 9AM and 11AM Masses, see the children being dismissed with an adult. They are going to the first classroom adjacent to the Parish Center.

There they hear the readings in a simpler form. The Prayer Leader discusses with the child the meaning of the readings, and how they can live out its’ message in the coming week. The Usher signals the Prayer Leader, that the homily in Church is finished, which gives just enough "me to say a simple Creed, their prayer inten"ons, and get back to Church during the collec"on. We are in need of Liturgy Of The Word For Children Catechists both at the 9AM and 11AM Masses each Sunday. If you are interested in helping, please call the Religious Educa"on Office at (847) 746-3744. You are always welcome to go out with the children to see how it is done, and may help in the future. Parents are invited to go out with reluctant children un"l they are ready to go on their own.

Come One! Come All! Let Us All Adore!

Please join us as we celebrate the coming of the Christ Child, and the visit of the Three Kings who came to do Him homage. We will have songs, food, and ac"vi"es for all adults and children. The Legion of Mary is sponsoring an Epiphany Party on Sunday, January 6th, 2019, from 4–6PM in the Hayes Community Room. Please RSVP to Vera by December 31st, 2018, if you are interested in a#ending. If accompanied by children, please indicate how many for our ac"vity planning purposes. Vera may be contacted at: [email protected], or call: (847) 682-9897. OR if you happen to see a Legion of Mary Member, just let us know.

A Christmas Blessing For The Home

Loving God, As we gather at Christmas around the manger, which reminds us of the birth of

Your Son, we ask You to dwell in our hearts and our home.

Bless every member of our family, and strengthen the bond

    of love among us.

May we joyfully praise You like the Angel Choir that announced

the birth of Your Son to the Shepherds watching over

    their flocks.

May we show Your love to others with the same brightness

of the Star that guided the Wisemen to offer gi&s to the

    newborn King.

Make our family holy, just like Jesus, Mary, and Joseph,

so that we may always live in peace and love.

Amen. The Legend Of The Christmas Tree On the day of Christ’s birth

all came with gi$s to bear, except a li#le tree who cried for he had nothing to share.

Hearing his distress, God’s Angel from above,

sent twinkling stars to grace the tree, and shine with all their love.

Evergreens appeared upon the limbs once bare,

the gi$ of everlas"ng life that Jesus would declare.

So remember when you see a Christmas Tree so bright, that God’s love shines for us in every twinkling light.

    There’s More To Christmas...

There’s more, much more to Christmas

Than candle-light and cheer; It’s the spirit of sweet friendship

that brightens all the year; It’s though'ulness and kindness,

It’s hope reborn again, For peace, for understanding,

    And for goodwill to men!

The Tale Of The Spider And Baby Jesus Let’s imagine, that it is a cold dark night and the wind is really blowing; but you are not in a nice warm building, you are outside, and no where close to home. Now let me tell you the story about the spider who saved the Baby Jesus. A$er Baby Jesus was born, the Holy Family had to run away from King Herod’s soldiers because King Herod did not want Baby Jesus to grow up. One night, the Holy Family le$

Bethlehem. They were ge*ng "red, so they went into a cave to try to get some rest. It was a cold, freezing night — so cold that the ground was carpeted with a white shiny frost. They were really "red. Mary and Joseph tried to make the cave as warm as they could for their newborn Son, but they just could not keep the cold wind out of the cave. Soon the Baby began to cry, and awoke a sleeping spider. The spider knew in his heart who this family was, and decided that somehow he must do something to help. So, he began to spin a web across the entrance of the cave to make a kind of curtain, which would shield the Holy Family from the strong cold winds. It was hard work, and the spider was just exhausted when it was finished. He had only just completed his web, when a group of Herod’s soldiers approached the cave. Remember, their mission was to kill Baby Jesus. The spider trembled with fear as he heard them stop outside the cave, and prepare to burst in and search it. He looked at the now sleeping Jesus, and prayed with all his might for a miracle. He was not disappointed. The soldiers were just about to enter the cave, when the captain no"ced the spider’s web, now covered with white shiny frost, stretching over the whole entrance of the cave. The captain laughed at the soldiers, “Can’t you see this spider’s web is completely unbroken? There can’t be anyone in the cave, otherwise they would have torn the web.” And so the soldiers went on their way, and the Baby Jesus slept peacefully that night because the li#le spider had given up his night’s sleep to spin his web. Any gi$ given to Jesus is never forgo#en. And as the story goes, that is why each year we cover our Christmas Trees with "nsel: so that the shiny streamers will remind us of that unknown spider whose frost-covered web saved the life of Baby Jesus.

During these last few hec!c days before Christmas, we o&en get “lost” in the busyness of the season. What we would most like to give our loved ones is the gi& of ourselves. You might like to clip one of these coupons (or make some of your own) to help spread the gi& of love we celebrate during this season of our Lord’s birth.

The Legend Of The Christmas Star

A diamond shines no brighter Than that lovely Christmas Star.

It shines in all its brilliance; It’s seen from near or far.

A symbol of the Christ Child As He lay upon the hay.

It tells to all the wai"ng world A King was born that day.

O’ Bethlehem Star keep shining – Give us faith and hope and love.

Keep our thoughts forever turning To the Savior up above.

Give us strength and hope And courage to do our best by far,

And never falter in our faith As we watch that Christmas Star.
