In addition to this, evidence of the changes made against each of the four areas outlined in indicator 1b will need to be provided. This should take the form of;

• By 31st March 2017 evidence submitted to the local CCG showing that the criteria has been met;

• By 31st March 2017 have discussed the changes or planned changes at a Public Board; and

• By 31st March 2017 a signed agreement between the Trust and any food franchise or contract holder which agrees to keep the changes made beyond 2016/17.

Part B of 1b:

Providers have also been expected to submit national UNIFY data collection returns by July 2016 and the 31st of March 2017 based on existing contracts with food and drink suppliers. This will cover any contracts covering restaurants, cafés, shops, food trolleys and vending machines or any other outlet that serves food and drink.

The data collected will include the following; the name of the franchise holder, food supplier, type of outlet, start and end dates of existing contracts, remaining length of time on existing contract, value of contract and any other relevant contract clauses. It should also include any available data on sales volumes of sugar sweetened beverages (SSBs).

CQUIN funds will be paid on delivering the four outcomes left. In many cases providers will be able to achieve these objectives by renegotiating or adjusting existing contracts.

D

Take out any price promotions from your restaurants that include sugary drinks and foods high in fat, sugar and salt. Replacing these products with healthier alternatives is advisable however strict processes are needed to make sure no HFSS products are ever included in these deals.Section A does not affect any BOGOF deals however the inclusion of these products in priced meal deals will affect your compliance so it is best to stop promotions on these products as a whole.A formal briefing on this section to all catering staff is also recommended as well as the continued self-inspection of your promotions to ensure your compliance.

Take down any POS/advertisements around your retail units that promote sugary drinks and foods high in fat, sugar and salt. You may have to negotiate with some drinks brands and fresh sandwich providers about the use of any branded fridges due to any past deals struck that resulted in the free loan of the equipment to your unit/s. Replace any other advertisements with adverts promoting your catering operation and/or products that are low in fat, sugar and salt so the awareness of your catering operation does not drop.

Review the layout of your catering outlets to ensure the HFSS products are away from the checkouts. This may involve reorganising and potentially refurbishing areas to ensure compliance.In addition, placing drinks that are high in fat, sugar and salt away from the front of checkouts and out of immediate eye line of any customers will mean you are complying with section C. Creating a shelf at the back of tills or in another point away from the checkout where these drinks can be placed is a method that still ensures you are able to display a broad range of products.

If your retail units are open late to accommodate staff working night shifts then selling ready-made meals, pre-cooked products and healthy snacks means you are compliant and maintaining the level of convenience that the night shift requires.

USEFUL TIPS

Take out any price promotions from on or around your vending machines that include sugary drinks and foods high in fat, sugar and salt. Replacing these products within the machines with healthier alternatives is advisable however strict processes are needed to make sure no HFSS products are ever included in these deals.A formal briefing on this section to all catering staff is also recommended as well as the continued self-inspection of your promotions to ensure your compliance.

Take away any posters or any other point of sale materials you may have around your vending machines advertising foods high in fat, sugar and salt. Placing any sugary drinks and foods that are high in fat, sugar and salt at the bottom of a vending machine or out of the immediate eye line of a customer ensures you are following section B of the guidance.

Providing a selection of drinks, snacks and healthier options within your vending machines is a sure way to comply with section D and offer healthy options at any point of the day.

Take down any POS/advertisements around the hospital that promote sugary drinks and foods high in fat, sugar and salt. Replace these advertisements with adverts promoting your catering operation and/or products that are low in fat, sugar and salt.

Placing drinks that are high in fat, sugar and salt away from the front of checkouts and out of immediate eye line of any customers will mean you are complying with section C. Creating a shelf at the back of tills or in another point away from the checkout where these drinks can be placed is a method that still ensures you are able to display a broad range of products.

If your restaurant is open late to accommodate staff working night shifts then selling ready meals, pre-cooked products and healthy snacks means you are compliant and maintaining the level of convenience that the night shift requires.

pre-sugared breakfast cereals, soft drinks, confectionery, savoury snacks and fast

food outlets

USEFUL TIPS

The banning of advertisement

on NHS premises of sugary drinks and foods

high in fat, sugar and salt (HFSS)

AB CQUIN 1b does not directly affect your patient feeding however it is important to note that your offer to patients should take into account the traffic light system where possible. Also by taking down any HFSS POS/advertisements around the hospital that patients could see you are guaranteeing that you are complying with CQUIN. Replacing these advertisements with adverts that promote your catering operation and/or products that are low in fat, sugar and salt will only benefit your standing when being inspected.

To find more about how we can help supply your offer to patients please speak with your local Bidvest Foodservice sales representative.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

Bidvest Foodservice’s definition of healthy eating for adults adheres to strict nutritional standards for fat, sugar and sodium.

Diabetes UK does not recommend a special diet for people with diabetes. The diet should be based on the same healthy eating principles that are recommended for the general population. This involves eating a healthy balanced diet:

(i) Basing meals on starchy foods (wholegrain varieties will provide a valuable source of fibre);

(ii) Eating at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables per day;

(iii) Eating 2-3 portions of low fat dairy foods per day (young children and malnourished adults need the energy provided by full fat dairy products, but for healthy adults, low fat varieties are preferable to help lower fat and saturated fat in the diet);

(iv) Eating 2 portions of meat, fish, eggs, beans and other non dairy sources of protein per day. Recommendations include eating at least 2 portions of fish per week, one of which should be oily.

Bidvest Trading Terms “We,” “us”, “our” means Bidvest Foodservice (a trading name of BFS Group Limited, a company registered in England and Wales, company number 239718, whose registered office is at 814 Leigh Road, Slough, SL1 4BD.
