Electric Vehicle Chargers (EVCs): Overview
13 million electric vehicles are expected on UK
roads by the end of 2030
All about EVCs:
• There are currently over 30,000 EV charge points across the UK
• Yorkshire and Humberside and North East England have the
smallest number of UK charging points, whilst London has the
largest
• Since 2015, the number of public charging devices has grown by
nearly 500%!
• The Government offers businesses, charities, and local
authorities financial support under the OLEV Workplace Charging
Scheme (WCS)
• Charging stations can be wall or ground-mounted
Solar PV & Battery Storage: Overview
The UK has a combined capacity of 12,318 megawatts
of solar PV power - enough to power over 2.6 million
households.
All about Solar PV:
• Solar PV (photovoltaic) systems capture the sun’s energy and
convert it into clean, free electricity that can be used to power
buildings
• Can be mounted to the ground or roofing via tiles or panels
• Solar battery storage units help maximise the amount of the
solar energy generated, providing a means to store and
discharge solar electricity at specific times and offer backup
power if needed. They are also used to help reduce demand
on the national grid.
Heat Pumps: Overview
About Heat Pumps:
• A highly-efficient way to provide heating & hot
water.
• 3 Main types are Air, Ground & Water.
• These can provide solutions for
both domestic & commercial applications.
• 5% VAT against 20%
40% of the UK’s CO2 emissions come from the heating &
cooling of buildings
Over 85% of domestic properties are heated by gas boilers
Smart Lighting: Overview
• Smart lighting – LED, motion-sensor lighting
• LED lighting is more a cost-effective, environmentally-friendly
and durable alternative to standard filament and halogen
• Digital control solutions can help clients further optimise
the performance of lighting systems and improve efficiency.
E.g. by linking lighting to Passive Infrared (PIR) motion
sensors, electric lights can be dimmed/activated
automatically according to light levels, meaning energy is
only used when needed.
All about Smart Lighting:
Lighting is estimated to account for 20 per cent of
all energy consumption in the UK.
Smart Buildings: Bringing it all together
A smart building uses automated processes to automatically
control the building’s operations including heating, ventilation,
air conditioning, lighting, security and other systems.
