PROJECT: A Hospital in Vermont Problem: Severe mold growth on the interior duct mastic inside the cold deck ductwork serving hospital surgical suites. Remediation: The ductwork was cleaned and the duct mastic was scrubbed with a fungistat, tested by an independent industrial hygiene consultant, and coated with an HVAC sealant. Coordination: The project was performed on off hours and was coordinated with the HVAC Mechanical contractor, hospital facility personnel, and the independent industrial hygiene consultant. PROJECT: FAA Air Traffic Control Tower Problem: Severe mold growth throughout the tower and base building. Air traffic controllers exposed and sensitized to a point the several were unable to continue work. The location was the nation's 25 th busiest airport and the tower was operating throughout the project on a 24/7 by 365 schedule. Remediation: All contaminated HVAC Systems were cleaned and inspected by third party. The HVAC units and all systemcomponents (ductwork, VAVs, Fan Powered Boxes, etc.) were cleaned, inspected, photographed, and videotaped. Coordination: Envirotech Clean Air coordinated with the FAA, building services, IH firms and duct cleaning consultant; the building tenant's and the tenant's IH firms and other critical care stakeholders. PROJECT: A 38 story Boston High Rise Office Building Problem: Improper internal insulation installation in all high pressure duct work on 38 floors lead to premature degradation resulting in airborne fiberglass binder material. Remediation: Remove all internal fiberglass in the high pressure ductwork down to bare metal and seal the ductwork. Clean all associated ductwork, VAV boxes and diffusers. Coordination: Envirotech coordinated with the building's owners, tenants, property management team, consulting engineers, industrial hygienists an multiple trades. All work was performed during off hours and was completely "invisible" to the building's occupants. This building is high profile with every floor being custom fitted out for the various tenants.

The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) has published a new revised standard for air duct cleaning assessment, cleaning and restoration (ACR 2013). Announced during the 24th annual NADCA conference and exposition in March, the 20 13 ACR has been designed to reflect the most current industry information and best practices of HVAC inspection, cleaning and maintenance.

OUR PROJECTS ENVIROTECH JOINS ASHRAE AS IAQA AND ASHRAE MERGE COMMERCIAL AIR DUCT CLEANING AND INSPECTION

ASHRAE and the Indoor Air Quality Association (IAQA) have agreed to join forces, combining resources to improve indoor air quality in the built environment. ASHRAE was formerly the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers. “Dan Greenblatt, President of Envirotech Clean Air, Inc. and treasurer of IAQA, was a part of the management oversight and search team which fi elded proposals from Association Management and related Indoor environmental associations, to be IAQA’s new management team. “ASHRAE formed in 1894 and has over 170 chapters and 54,000 members” says Dan. “We are proud to be a part of such a world class association both nationally and at the Boston Chapter”.

IAQA will become a part of the ASHRAE organization while maintaining its own brand and Board of Directors. IAQA will operate independently within ASHRAE’s organizational structure. IAQA headquarters has relocated from Rockville, Md., to Atlanta, Ga., home of ASHRAE’s international headquarters. The agreement was reached between the leadership of both associations and confi rmed at ASHRAE’s 2014 Annual Conference that concluded July, 2014 in Seattle, Wash, and the move was completed on August 15. 2014.

This merger is benefi cial to both ASHRAE and IAQA in that it strengthens the programs and services of both organizations,” Tom Phoenix, ASHRAE president, said. “The work of IAQA complements the work of ASHRAE in its standards, research, publications and educational offerings. We now combine our resources to ensure the industry receives the best indoor air quality technical guidance and educational programs possible, which means improved indoor air quality for the world around us.” Visit www.ashrae.org
