Dear Sisters & Brothers in Christ,
“There is no way to go to Bethlehem” -- I was told that while visiting the Holy Land in November
2009. Truly, all tensions along the border between Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory
stopped regular pilgrim traffic to visit Bethlehem. I felt there had to be some way to travel to
the birthplace of our Savior. One of cab drivers in Jerusalem agreed to help me. He was a Jew
so he was not allowed to enter the territory occupied by Palestinians. But his friend, or at
least a business partner, an Arab and a Palestinian, was waiting at the border to pick me up
and drive me to Bethlehem. It really worked both ways. For the return trip, a Jew was waiting
for me by the border. He even saved my camera from another military check point. From a
distance of some 1000 feet, I took a picture of a check point. The Jewish cab driver was
fighting for me with soldiers using his loud Hebrew vocabulary and finally defended me and my camera. By the end
of the day, I came to reflect on the many tensions in human life. I thought about all the conflicts, wars, and disagreements.
Sometimes we think, there is no way to get to Bethlehem at this time. There are so many threats, wars, wounds, and
disagreements. We talk about many miracles of Christmas. The best miracle which really brings us God’s blessings is
to go beyond our wars and to be children again of one God. This is a spiritual pilgrimage to the manger and a spiritual
homage to the Newborn Child. That which is on our tongue when we sing with the angels ‘glory of God on highest
and peace to people on earth’, should it not be also in our hearts?
Let us go to Bethlehem! Let us go the place that seemed impossible to visit. Let us get over our conflicts and wounds.
Our Christmas celebration is a spiritual pilgrimage to meet the Newborn King. We are not celebrating a figure from
the past like a king or emperor who lived a thousand years ago. We are celebrating an actual and powerful love of
our God, who gave us His only begotten Son and transforms our lives. Jesus Christ is alive in His Church and honors
us with such a grace to become children of God. It happened two thousand years ago, and it happens now, whenever
we accept Jesus into our life, when we allow Him to be born in our hearts.
May your Christmas be wonderful. Let no physical distance make a distance in your love, peace, and joy!
Merry Christmas!

Our Lady, Mother of the Church
Mission Statement
We, the members of Our Lady, Mother of the
Church, are drawn together through baptism as a
part of the Body of Christ. We are a caring Catholic
community, working together as instruments through
which Jesus, our risen Lord and Head, continues
His mission. Linked to Christ as His Body, we believe
that the risen Jesus still proclaims God’s word, gives
thanks and praise, welcomes, nurtures, comforts
and reaches out to all people. Using the hands and
hearts of the members of the parish, with a growing
sense that each of us is gifted and has an important
part to play in our Parish, Church and World, we
renew our call:
to be a Parish diligent about Word and Eucharist,
the primary source of our nourishment and
spiritual growth...
to be “missioned” - sent forth in the person of
Jesus, to bring His Word and Eucharist to family,
friends, neighbors and workplace...
to reach out to the sick, the homebound, the per-
secuted, the lonely, the poor and the bereaved…
to find time to share laughter, joy, friendship, at times,
tears; and always to share the goodness of each other...

Pray the Rosary in Advent and Christmas
This week we are praying the Rosary for Pope Francis, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, and the Holy Father’s December
prayer intention, that our personal relationship with Jesus Christ be nourished by the Word of God and a life of
prayer. We appreciate our Rosary prayer warriors: Lori G., John I., Evelyn K., Terri K., Gilda M., Lonnie M., Mary M.,
Ted M., Josephine N., Emilie P., Stefania P., Jean R., Shirley S., and Milabelle T.
The Living Rosary is for the triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and in honor of Saint Philomena. On June 13,
1917, Our Lady of Fatima told Lucia, “Jesus wants to establish the devotion to my Immaculate Heart in the world. I
promise salvation to those who embrace it, and their souls will be loved by God as flowers placed by me before His
throne.” With the Living Rosary, each person prays a decade of the Rosary daily. The Joyful Mysteries are prayed by
Ted M., Barb R., Josephine N., Karen R., and Mary M. The first two Luminous Mysteries are prayed by Barb R. and
Mary M. If you would like to pray one of the remaining three decades of the Luminous Mysteries daily,
or be one of the Rosary prayer warriors, please contact the rectory.

Christmas Prayer
Glory to God in the highest!
My precious Lord, Jesus,
I adore You with profound love and rejoice in the celebration of Your birth.
Your love for us is unfathomable,
it is glorious, transforming,
awe-inspiring, and deeply personal.
You chose to come and dwell among us,
being born into poverty, rejection and humility.
Yet Your mother knew whom she bore,
Her heart was filled with the tenderest love
as she adored her Child and her God.
Help me, dear Lord.
to come to love You with the heart of Your mother.
Invite me to adore You with St. Joseph and the poor shepherds.
Reveal to me the glorious power of Your birth
and change my life on account of this perfect gift of Yourself.
I love You, dear Lord Jesus.
Help me to love You with all my heart.
Newborn Savior of the World,
I trust in You.
Mother Mary and St. Joseph,
Pray for me and for all. Amen.
